So turns out the US are setting babies up for a lifetime of illness and increased likelihood of liver cancer in Guinea Bissau in the name of “research”
7000 newborns will be denied the neoneatal HepB vaccine until 6 weeks to ‘prove’ that the HepB vaccine is linked to neurodevelopmental disability on the directions of the Department of Health vis RFK Jr and in collaboration with researchers in Denmark, despite the fact that the vaccine’s efficacy rate and best protection is when administered to newborns, and the total lack of correlation between vaccination and neurodevelopmental disabilities.
Guinea Bissau has some of the highest rates of HepB on the continent, and infants are the group at the highest risk of contracting HepB, leading to chronic hepatitis & long term hepatic diseases like cirrhosis and liver failure as well as increased chance of liver cancer.
The study can’t be carried out in the US or Denmark because it fails almost every benchmark for medical ethics — surprising absolutely nobody, it is in fact heinously unethical to expose babies to preventable disease that causes liver failure and liver cancer, but the “study” has been green lit in Guinea.

Recently came across a clip of that cartoon villain looking "comedian" who is famous for being racist talking about why he didn't have his daughter vaccinated for Hep B. Of course, he was very shocked and refused to get the vaccine, as his baby is not going to have sex with anyone until after marriage or whatever. Like there was the VERY strong implication that Hep B is given to babies so that they can be abused or to facilitate their abuse which like, as far as I know. Most babies with Hep B didn't get it from sexual abuse.... like, he presented it explicitly as an STD to make it seem like you are sexualizing children by vaccinating kids against it. Thats the real argument these people believe, even though literally anything we call an STD can be transmitted in a myriad of non-sexual ways

a big part of the reason we have the fear of cops we (me and my systemmates) have is from growing up with ice sweeping where we lived. sometimes neighbors would disappear and we'd be like "where did my friend beto go?" and someone would say he and his family didn't have papers, so they got taken. just disappeared, and there was nothing anyone could do about it.
under the biden administration we saw ice taking people just about every month. just pulling over trucks and arresting everyone inside. no one cared then.
all of the ice activities that have been making national and international news trace their origins back here. el paso sent ice agents to chicago. and i don't say this to downplay the horror, everything ice is doing is absolutely terrible, but we were on tumblr in 2009 trying to get people to care and the only ones who did were overwhelmingly other latine people and a handful of Black bloggers.
people here are just really thoroughly defeated and broken. there are still protests every now and then, and at least one small activist group, but nothing has anywhere near the energy or presence other places have because we as a city and as communities have been crushed for decades. people here don't expect things to get better, they haven't in twenty years.
