I was absolutely obsessed with the Roman Republic around 16 years ago (woah, I can't believe how long ago it was...), and it is all coming back.

The story of Scipio Africanus and Hannibal was one of my favorites. Right after the absolute insanity that was Sulla & Co. It started with McCullough's Masters of Rome books (which I dropped after Caesar became the main character), but then I began reading the ancient sources & academic stuff, which turned out so fascinating. It was cool to start forming my own interpretations of all the historical figures and discover new faves. Never expected to be hit in the feels by Lucullus, of all people.

I guess I might go refresh my memory...
