no you do not need to hold fictional characters "accountable". they are not real.

"The Tortoise and the Hare and the Man On The Moon."

There was a man on the moon. He was highly interested in the activities of the Tortoise and the Hare, of their races and fights and friendship. He wanted to see how far they could go, in every measure. One day, he hatched a plan, to put on the ultimate race.

On the day of the race, the crowd was cheering for their champions, all parties except for the Man unknowing of the true prize, the "ultimate bragging rights". A Taste of what makes the loser "them".

The gunshot rings out, and the race begins. We've heard this part of the tale before, haven't we? Of the Hare taking a break, of the Tortoise's win, but not of what came after. The Man approached the two, and told them of the prize. Both racers were horrified, the Hare scoffed, saying, "Really? That's the prize? I thought those types of jokes weren't your style, Mr. Stick-In-The-Mud!" To which the Man replied, "A joke? Oh, no, Hare, this is no joke." The Tortoise couldn't utter a single word, out of shock and fear.

But the Man simply smiled, and locked the door. He handed The Tortoise a weapon and said, "Only one of you can leave this room alive. If you refuse to these conditions, then you shall live here for the rest of your days together."

The only thing anybody knows is that after that day, all three were never seen again.

btw you're allowed to enjoy two differing interpretations of the same character and you don't have to justify why you like it to anyone. you can like your evil character to be malicious and serious and you can like depicting them as a silly goober. you can enjoy seeing people draw two characters in all sorts of different contexts and dynamics without having to pick one over the other. you don't have to come up with a complex reason. you don't have to explain yourself to anyone. you can like a character multiple ways without having to justify why it's not problematic or why it's not weird. do what you want. it's fandom, not a testimony before the court.

im the complex video game nerd and my feelings towards this video game are rather nuanced

he's gonna take you back to the past, to analyse, compare and contrast

not an apologizer but a contextualizer. yes the character did that but please understand the Circumstance. yes they had other options but they had to make this choice in a sea of available bad choices. and also it made the narrative more interesting. won't anybody think about the narrative!!!!!
