Reunited (Epilogue)

REBELS REX X FEM READER

Summary: After 16 years Rex is finally reunited with the woman he loved and lost long ago

As the Phantom broke through the atmosphere of Seelos, Ezra and Kanan sat down next to you while Zeb and Sabine argued about something in the cockpit. You were nervous, shaking your leg and twiddling your thumbs. It had been so long, too long. How were you going to face Rex after all these years?

“You okay?” Kanan inquired.

“Is it that obvious?”

“Only a little. This commander, this person Ahsoka’s sending us to... did you know them?”

You thought back to all the time you spent with Rex during the Clone Wars, all the battles that the two of you endured, how close you became to him, how that friendship and trust grew into something more. Love.

“Once,” you responded.

An old and heavily modified AT-TE walker halted as the shuttle touched down on the desolate terrain. The rest of the crew got out first. You stood up and started to follow, but something stopped you. Fear? Regret? Anger? You didn’t know what it was. Then, that familiar voice rang out. The voice of your Captain.

He was talking to Kanan, yelling more like, their mutual dislike of each other shown through their intense discussion. It was time to make your move.

“You should listen to them Rex old boy,” you said as you stepped out. “We need your help.”

He had aged considerably since the last time you saw him. His hair was gray and small wrinkles had formed on his face. He was clad in his 501st armor with his helmet in hand. He looked different on the outside, but you knew he was still the same man inside, he was still your Rex.

“I know you’re probably surprised to see me, but I figured it was time. I’m-” the words caught in your throat before you could finish. He never took his eyes off of you as he made his way down a ladder, his brothers watching from above.

“I’m sorry I didn’t look for you. But, you never looked for me either. I thought you were gone and I had lost faith. Then Ahsoka said she had a lead on were you were and- and I had hope again.”

He hadn’t said anything, just looked at you with eyes wide and mouth slightly agape as he walked over to you slowly.

“Rex, please say something, shout, scream, anything, just stop looking at me like that.”

Rex reached out with a calloused hand and touched your face. He used his thumb to wipe away a tear that had started to stream down your cheek.

“You’re as beautiful as the day I lost you.” His voice was soft, almost a whisper.

His arms surrounded you as he pulled you into a warm embrace. You submerged your face into the crook of his neck to muffle the small sobs that escaped from your mouth. You finally had your captain back.
