Ben and I were sitting in my living room. He winced as I cleaned the wound on his right eyebrow.

“Don’t move.”

He looked me in the eye and in silence for several seconds.

“So, are you going to tell me where you learned to shoot a gun or…?” He asked.

I smiled.

“Are you going to tell me why three men broke into your home to kill you?”

“Oh, that was just a silly bar fight with the wrong people, clearly.” He lied.

“Sure.”

“Your turn.”

I scoffed at how serious he looked even though he was lying and he knew that I was well aware of it.

“Come on. How did you learn to shoot like that?” He pushed.

“Playing endless marathons of Resident Evil 4.” I lied just as ridiculously.

He stared into my soul with disapproval but it didn’t last long when it was sabotaged by a childish chuckle, which I helplessly found contagious. The timer on the oven went off. I got up and left to take the lasagna out of the oven but I could feel Ben’s eyes on me the whole time. I knew he wanted the real deal, answers I didn’t want to give him even though I knew his.

I took a step forward ready to break Michael's face but Mads was much stronger than me. The fact that he wasn’t even saying anything to show he was on my side made me twice as furious. I glared at him, snatched my hand away and left. On my way to our cabin, I saw a door that was left ajar and caught a glimpse of a silhouette inside. I pushed it open to realize it was the master cabin and startled Ana in the process who was standing in front of the mirror with a bag of ice pressed against her face.

“I’m sorry.” I apologized. “I was on my way to my room. How are you feeling? Your… boyfriend... said you were seasick.” I tried not to sound disgusted.

Ana had a frightened look, she was almost shaking.

“Are you okay?” I asked.

But then she lowered the bag and allowed me to see the black eye she was sporting. It looked fresh. I gritted my teeth. I didn’t think it was possible to become even more enraged than I already was, but my blood boiled.

“Did he do this to you?” I asked in a murmur.

Ana’s eyes welled up with tears. She gave most shy nod, terribly afraid. My self-control ceased to exist. I pulled out my gun and walked out only to bump into Mads.

“Where the fuck do you think you’re going with that?” He demanded.

“He beat Ana, Mads. He fucking killed an innocent animal and he beat his girlfriend. I’m gonna blow his fucking dick off.”
