People on Tumblr love sharing information about themselves no matter how asinine it is. And I'm the same way. Everybody tell me what the last thing you drank was.
This paints such a beautiful picture

Ok quick question what’s the last book you read that couldn’t put down? Like not even what was your last fave book but what’s the last book you absolutely had to stay up finishing even though it meant you were dead tired the next day? In the replies or tags, whichever, I just haven’t hit on that feeling in like a year and want to know everyone’s

Everyone’s opinion re: DRAMA QUEEN.
¡Lo extraño!
@bethanyactually just reminded me how much I enjoyed th early seasons of Arrow. Which is actively hilarious because I fucking hated Comics!Oliver Queen and Smallville!Oliver Queen. But! Arrow managed to make me a Drama Jonas Queen fan and I remain fond.
Why? Because that idiot is a grade A telanovela star. Even the finale (which, idk, I did not love the last season) didn’t disprove my theory. Idk, I just feel like I wanna gleefully yell ¡SOY LA NOCHE! and smile at what a fun trash fire that show was.

A recent conversation in a discord group reminded me of something important. If you're on the younger side (under 25 or 30) and you haven't seen all the incredible, dark and disturbing fantasy films that came out in the 1980s and late 1970s, then I would strongly encourage you to do so. There was something so dark about that genre during that time that I absolutely adore and that isn't really around in modern films for children and young adults (once they learned that it traumatized a whole generation of us).
My faves in case you need any recommendations. (Some of these are really not appropriate for children, so keep that in mind lol).
The Dark Crystal - 1982 - the Skeksis will give you nightmares. I am honestly very proud of the remake for being just as disturbing if not more so than the original.
Watership Down - 1978- NOT FOR CHILDREN - Jesus Christ why did so many of our parents show us this film at a formative age? It's all about trauma and death and displacement and there's literal blood and murder. Not a G Rated Film. Still, it's very good. Loads better than that CGI remake from a decade ago.
The Secret Of NIMH - 1982 - Incredible movie. Minor disturbing elements. Probably my favorite on the list. It's just a great adventure story with real world issues (animal experimentation, mental health problems, disabilities) and there's even a lovely romance. Highly recommend.
Legend - 1985- This film is just straight up disturbing. Yes, there's a lot of beautiful shots of unicorns and sexy, 20-something year old (insane Scientology wack job) Tom Cruise and gorgeous Mia Sara, but there's also torture, madness and literally the Devil (Tim Curry is the entire reason you should watch this film)
Labyrinth - 1986 - I only really have two words. David. Bowie. My 10 year old self found out about a lot of burgeoning kinks while watching that man prance around in eyeliner and a codpiece. It's a wonderful adventure as well - if you ignore the blatant romantic and sexual tension between Bowie and an underage Jennifer Connelly (none of us could)
The NeverEnding Story - 1984 - Lots of disturbing imagery in this one! The Nothing was fucking terrifying, and the creatures in this world seemed uniformly creepy, but still incredibly well done. Love the adventure of it.
The Princess Bride - 1987 - Not technically a kids film maybe? Lots of adult themes and adult jokes, but safe for kids imo. I adored it and still do. Incredible performances by Cary Elwes and Mandy Patinkin. R.O.U.S, Hello! My name is Inigo Montoya! (need I say more?)
The Last Unicorn - 1982 - A beautiful film with stunning representations of innocence, good and evil. Just gorgeous really. I should rewatch it as it's been 20 years or so.

Adding a couple...
LadyHawk.
A romance / Action film about a knight and a maiden who are cursed. Her to transform into a hawk during the day & him into a wolf at night. Forever keeping them apart.
DragonSlayer
A coming of age tale about a wizard apprentice who must save a village from a dragon & the sacrifice lottery the village has established around it.
(Rare example of 1980s genderfuckery)
Willow
LOTR before we ever thought a LOTR film would ever be possible. You've probably seen this one, but just in case.
The Flight of Dragons
Transplanted into the body of a dragon a scientist must come to terms with magic, even while explaining it.
Krull
Classic adventure story severely undervalued in its time.
Some of the creepiest spider stop motion to ever exist.
These are all on my favorite movies list. I find myself humming the Flight Of Dragons song randomly to this day.
As an autistic child with ADHD and a burgeoning case of OCPD, I was deeply upset by many moments in many of these movies (particularly The Dark Crystal and The Never Ending Story, which are dark, so you have every right to feel grossed/creeped out by those muppets. They were hella extremely creepy.
Girl, I saw all of these before the age of 10. Half of them IN SCHOOL. The second Wizard of Oz film was show to my Kindergarten class as a “last day of school” distraction.
Tbf, my mother famously took me to see Robocop instead of Benji.
Something sweet.
So the current D&D campaign I am involved in is in the Obojima setting. It’s basically a Miyazaki film with Zelda elements and we’re playing as a host of children who belong to a scout troop in one of the interior small towns.
Honestly, it’s a hoot. Mostly because we’ve started playing and the kids’ personalities are starting to come together! Which is good because I’ve had some real pushback from my DM on the character I’ve built. BUT. Last session, we finally had a convo with a 💡 moment for him!
Basically, I have built a tiny 10yo girl child who is the heir to a shipping company with a negligent parent who also has a TON of expectations and cultural rules. She has been sent to this village to stay with a company assistant without a lot of information on WHY. She’s been signed up for scouts because a. The assistant is not really a parent and has zero clue what to do w the boss’s kid and b. she can’t do dance practice and school exclusively. She’s tiny (for a human) and everything you would expect for a proper, sweet, seen-not-heard rich girl.
She’s built as a barbarian. With an absolutely busted strength modifier. (It was og 10 but my dm made me change it.) Because she’s 10! And a child! And I love giving myself in-game obstacles that shape my role play!
The conflict is that my DM has been pushing me to change her class to a rogue or a monk and has been really confused at why I built her as a human barbarian. But! They finally Got It when we hit a point in an encounter where she finally raged! Because they finally got why this character, this CHILD would be a well of barely suppressed rage and anger.
She’s lonely! And has zero control in her life or circumstances! And when she hits a point in an adventure where someone/someTHING else tries to take more choices from her? Loaded damn gun. She just happens to be 10, tiny, and her one gift is she kicks like a dancer.
And it was really nice to see the DM finally clock it in real time!
That said, I feel vaguely bad that I am not on my party’s level with stat building. For me, I build as I go, trying to see what is correct for the character in the mood/place they are in when a level up happens. Building out all the possibilities and using mechanics in my favor is just not not my jam, tho it is fun to watch my party have a good time with it!

I was doing some estate (ha!) planning this evening and in sorting out who gets my cat, my very kind friend who is inheriting the ding dong asked me (very, very kindly) if I had an AO3 account I wanted nuked.
My reply was along the line of “Hand out the link to the mourners, I want them to read all my bookmarks, there will be a quiz after their own deaths.”
My only shame over what I read is that you fuckers won’t ALL read my favorites so I can have a fic discussion club! I want you all emotionally devastated by stuff so we can wail incoherently!
Damn.
Jason Clarke has been such a fabulous damn mimic for decades. He blew my mind in the first episode of The Chicago Code. His and Jennifer Beals’ (who is FROM HERE) Southside accents were so strong and fast, I could barely follow them and I listen to both black and white versions on a DAILY basis.
I mention this as he apparently played Alex Mertaugh in a movie? And DAMN. THAT MAN IS AUSTRALIAN!
911 watch 2.0?
I remain fascinated by how committed to the Midwestern Dad bit Peter Krause is on this show. I am watching Abandons Ship and all I see is my dad, my brother, and my nephews being let loose on a boat. The posture! The dorkiness! I have walked behind that man at every tourist location from Cincinnati to Sioux Falls.
Yaaaay! I am here for the adorable Bobby and Athena! CUTIES!

Nothing prepares you for how ugly a cybertruck is in real life. I've seen seven of them now, I'm still never prepared for how fuckawful this thing looks. "Why is there a moving over-engineered trash bin on the ro-- oh my god." Every single time. I'm not even being a hater, the thing is genuinely ugly, it looks like a seventh grade intro to engineering class project that got maybe a C+. There are no sleek lines, there's nothing but dull gray metal, it's not even that intimidatingly large. It looks like it was made out of scrap pieces welded together. It can sort of appear decent in pictures, somehow. But in real life, I am never prepared for how fucking ugly or dinky it actually is.
