It turns out that all housecats are actually lovecraftian monsters. Due to an ancient pact with humans, however, they will never use their powers for earthly offense. Against otherworldy invaders, however, they have no such restrictions.

My biggest pet peeve is when a Czech animated movie is released internationaly, they rename the characters to appeal to international audience.

It's not a big deal, I know. However Czech names usually carry a hidden meaning behind certain characters personality or goals. And if I'm being honest, a lot of times it feels as a small sign of asimilation and cultural erasure.

Sometimes it happends to characters whose name already have an international variant, but are named something compleatly differend from the original movie for...reasons??

One example I can think of is the new released animated adaptation "The proud princess" based on an old beloved fairytale film from 1952.

King Miroslav and princess Krasomila are renamed Benjamin and Carolina. I understand the pronounciation of the original names would be difficult, but as I stated before, the name carry their meanings.

Miroslav means "One who celebrates peace" and is indicative to his good heart and the well being of the Sun Kingdom.

Krasomila means "One in love with beauty" wich implies her pride and vanity, but can also point out her love for beautifull things.

Another name that was changed in this movie was Zlatoslav, who was renamed to Romeo. Zlatoslav means "One who celebrates gold" wich points out his wealth and love of riches.

As much as the changes of the names aren't bad and somewhat fit the characters regardless, the creativity put into their original names gets lost.

Another example of this can be found in you guessed it, The goat story.

This movie however does the second phenomenon mentioned above.

The main characters get renamed from Kuba and Máca to Jemmy and Katie.

The name Kuba is just a home nickname for the name Jakub, wich is just a Czech variation of the name Jacob. Jemmy feels a little out of place, as this nickname is mostly used for people named Jeremy or James, rather than Jacob for whom the nickname is less common. Jack would probably work better, despite the name being more commonly assosiated with the czech variant of Jan, but working simply with the name Jacob would be as easy.

Máca on the other hand isn't a common Czech name but rather a nickname taken either from last names or the name Marcela. The name more fitting would probably be Marcy or Marceline.

What do you guys think. Should we keep changing the names or try and let others learn ours??

HELP ME, MAN

The idea of Zoey working at McDonald's or something at 16 is still so funny to me, especially when compared to Rumi and Mira's childhoods.

At the same point in time, you have Mira doing fancy piano recitals to impress her parents' friends, Rumi having twice-daily combat training and frequent pop quizzes about the different demon types, and Zoey getting cussed out because someone in the back accidentally put nine chicken nuggets in some guy's ten piece. Fighting with the self-cleaning ice cream machine because like eight people want McFlurries and it's been inoperable all the day and everyone in the store is on the "they lie about the machine being down because they don't want to refill it" thing. Scribbling lyrics on napkins when its slow. Being the shortest one there and therefore the one who always has to crawl into and clean the play place. Sneaking fries and nuggets to get her through her shift.

I don't think she likes McDonald's anymore. The girls or Bobby would offer to take her there because "it's American food and you like burgers" and she's like "dear god please no". If someone talks to her while she's cooking or cleaning there's a 1% chance she slips into her customer service voice and says "I'll be right with you, thank you for your patience" and whichever one of her girlfriends just asked if she wanted any help is like "uh... what".
