Steve always volunteered to work Christmas Eve. He was the only Pediatrician on staff at the Children’s Hospital that wasn’t Mated with kids or have family nearby. Until he had a Mate and pups of his own, he would do whatever he could to make Christmas as special as possible for these kids and their families. He didn’t mind, he was going to see his chosen family at the Byers- Hopper get together for New Year’s, and at least this way he got to spend time with some pups who really needed extra TLC. It was in his Omega nature to want to ‘mother’ any pups he interacted with, but it was also just a Steve Harrington thing. Once he got over himself in high school, he could admit to himself that his caring nature was just who he was and didn’t make him weak or any less of a man just because he was an Omega. It took him some time to accept himself after he presented when he was 16, but he would always be grateful he did as it brought him to his Pack. Now, in Chicago, he didn’t get to see his Platonic Soulmate Robin as often as he liked as she lived in New York with her Mate Vickie. And the ‘kids’ he babysat in high school were scattered around the country, but they all made it a point to be back in Hawkins, Indiana for New Year’s.
