The dominant culture has appropriated and commodified geek/fandom culture.

fandom this sometimes gatekeeping is good otherwise we get the hellscape that is modern fandoms with people kicking out the fans that were there or bullying them for the source material not being catered to their tastes when they didn't even like the source material or the fandom to begin with
