Before anything, this post is half vent posting and half game announcements, so expect to read too much, if not, just read the headers to see if that part in specific it's convenient for you to read.

I hope you've had a good year, personally... I certainly have! (Ahem, ahem, despite not having Half Life 3, ahem, ahem). Everything has been going uphill. So... I think I need to give a little update on Proteggct and what it ACTUALLY is. Believe me, I'm restarting this project once again, and it will probably go down in history as one of the most ridiculous cases of quantum physics.

Proteggct: Letting the boat sail.

So... whatever it happened could be described in a single word: Overscoping. I thought about adding so many stuff to this game that I never knew where to stop, so it ended up rebooting everytime I wanted to approach different stuff, different mechanics and different stories.

Just to give you an idea, let me give you a not-so-brief summary of how Proteggct has been developed. (You can always skip further to actual GAME NEWS if you want, I'm also lazy to read all of this...)

Version 1 - Version 1.0, which was supposed to be finished between 2021 and 2022.

I believe that the current version of Newgrounds fulfills that purpose and has certain features that I wanted to add.

Version 2 - It was like 1.0 but reprogrammed from scratch, adding a few enemies and that's it.

From here on out, Proteggct is developed in Godot 4.

Version 3 - A version that redid both the graphics and the survival mechanics of the game, the first and only build that had a boss fight (I have a build in my possession).

And from here on out, it's all downhill...

Version 4 - A story was developed. Heggbert apparently had a purpose for the egg: to take care of it and deliver it to a certain place. But where? At the time, I was thinking of making it an open ending.

This version is undoubtedly the most embarrassing, due to the dark tones I wanted to add, you know what I mean? A little Newgrounds game made in less than a week suddenly having deep and unnecessary lore.

Version 5 - A version derived from 4, the egg ceases to be important to Heggbert and becomes a product that Heggbert must deliver. The story begins on his planet but ends on another.

I'm not sure if Proteggct 4 or 5 had mechanics based on Splatoon 3's story mode... That low? Yes, that low.

Platformer Version - There was a time where I played so much Terraria and also enjoyed the quick-pacing movements of Pizza Tower and Smash Bros, so I wanted to approach something similar to Proteggct, and that's when I decided to turn it into a Platformer game where I could use the gravity and momentum on my favour. Of course, this is ridiculous because when you remake a game you don't change it's whole genre. It is like if you made a Plants Vs. Zombies in vertical resolutio instead of it's classic horizontal on- Oh, right...

Escape Version - This was the one I announced in 2024, almost a year ago. It's a big lore, I won't go into much detail about it because I prefer to save it for another project.

But I think you get the idea. There were too many restarts, and that's not even counting the number of Godot projects that went through my hard drive. Anyway, it was too much, and I preferred to end this project.

And with that said...

Proteggct: The Remake

I personally call it Proteggct DX. It's suppossed to be a remake of the original demo, I promise on god, once I'm done with this I won't ever yap about Proteggct ever again (Unless I have to update it, of course...)

This version takes stuff from the original version and version 3 (As I think this is one of the best versions I've ever made). In fact, remember the DOOM-Reference artwork I did? That's the new design of Heggbert.

My scope is no that big, so I'll summary what I have planned

  • Story mode
  • Infinite Mode
  • At least one bossfight
  • Weapons that are not reskins.
  • Achievements and Leadeboard
  • And most important: THE END

And, in the things that goes beyond the scope, therefore, I'm not sure if I'll be able to accomplish with them.

  • Original Soundtrack
  • Score Attack Mode

The first image in this post is a small peek into what it is now, so you have now an idea of the game's current state.

My deadline is Q4 2026 - Q1 2027, as I'm currently on college and I have my priorities.

The leftover of Proteggct

As I said, the Escape version had some stuff that actually convinced me to use it as a different game with a different story, probably in the same universe as Proteggct, but with no eggs obstructing the gameplay. You won't hear about it in a long time as the scope is REALLY BIG and I wanna get enough experience to later know how to do the stuff properly. :P

Oh yeah... there's another game.

I've been also working on this... Is in a pretty early state as I'm planning to change the artstyle to something more... Y2Kish? I don't even know how to call it.

FUN FACT, This game was initially a rhythm game until I realized I'm not that experimented to do rhythm games and the gameplay felt pretty uh... lame. So I instead remade it to a more arcade game. It has two bosses btw.

The deadline is uncertain as I'm currently working on Proteggct Remake but I wanted to showcase this :)

And with all this said, I hope you have happy holidays and that you're able to finish your projects properly!

The best tip I could give is to not overscope, recognize how much you can do before thinking about how many things you want to do. Don't press yourself and remember, anything you do, do it passionately and having fun!

See ya at 2026!
