PSA: stuttering in fics

as someone with a speech impediment, all of the people saying that only one type of stuttering is valid are wrong.

stuttering CAN look like this: "t-this is a-an example s-s-sentence"

OR this: "this-this is an example sen-sentence."

OR this: "t-t-t-th-..t-ttttthis is an example sentence."

OR this: "this is, uhm, an example, uh, sentence."

OR this: "this is an example sssssss-sentence."

OR this: "this is an examp-...this an example sentence."

sometimes the sentence won't even come out of your mouth at all.

there are probably many examples i'm forgetting, but that's the point! it usually is a mix of a few of these, but some people do one of them more often than others! some people with speech impediments have certain sounds that they almost consistently have trouble with (for me it's "st").

people with speech impediments also rarely-if ever-stutter whilst they're singing or whispering.

most importantly!!!! people with speech impediments are capable of saying a sentence without stuttering!! it can just be a gamble sometimes.

and if more people could portray the frustration that comes with stuttering and not being able to get words out, i'd be a very happy girl.

(fun fact: sometimes when my mouth won't let me say what i want to say, i get so annoyed that i just yell or grumble out "WORDS.")

this was your speech impediment PSA!!!!

out of all the posts i’ve made i’m happy that it’s THIS one that blew up

out of all the posts

i’ve made i’m happy that it’s

THIS one that blew up

Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.

Another example: "Thi-ih-is is an exa-ah-mple se-sentence." (This is how I sometimes sound)

theorising… i’ve already seen a lot of people say that jax in this scene intentionally pushes the red button to keep the gang in the circus forever, because he doesn’t want to go back to his real life and he’s willing to keep everybody else there with him to avoid it - which absolutely is a possibility. but i think there’s also something to be said for the possibility that he was aiming for the blue button.

jax hates the circus. for all his bullshit about not caring, about how it’s just a silly wacky cartoon world, we know he hates it. and in this episode, it’s only gotten worse for him, with an almost abstraction, and these constant flashes of something other, something that he can’t quite place and that are dark and creepy and unsettling and that he wants to stop. so i think there’s a real chance he was aiming for the blue button - not because he necessarily wants to leave, but because he wants whatever’s happening to him to stop, and leaving the circus is the only way to achieve that. he’s terrified, he’s in pain, he’s losing his grip on the world he’s in and the magic button to make it stop forever is right there. there’s a few shots that i think support this possibility, too:

for one, when jax is running to the console, the blue button is the one that stays in his line of sight the entire time. while this could just be coincidence because of the side of the room he’s on, i do find it interesting that he doesn’t seem to either look behind pomni at the red button, or shove her out of the way like he does to zooble.

second, after he’s pressed the button, his eyes kind of… flick between the two of them. which yes, is likely partially out of shock he pressed either of them at all, but i do think it’s also because the one he pressed is not the one he was intending to.

and third, the big one: the immediate anger at caine for messing with their minds. the first part alone, “you got in my head,” i originally read as jax being angry that, despite all his cynicism, caine gave him the first glimmer of hope he’s had in ages. but with the second part, the absolute fury of “you can mess with our minds too, can’t you?” makes me think of caine being a puppeteer rather than a manipulator. it’s not just that he messed with jax’s emotions, it’s that he shifted his brain (and his hand) to picking the opposite choice - not the one jax wants, but the choice that caine wants - for the gang to stay with him, for the gang to want to stay with him. the ending where a member of the team likes their life with him, because even if it’s by force, caine can lie to himself that jax chose it. it doesn’t matter to caine how the stay button gets pressed, only that it does.

all in all, i think there’s a strong chance that rather than keeping everyone in the circus to avoid his real life, jax was making an attempt to get them - or rather, himself - out of the circus, if only to force his abstraction/visions to stop, only to have his hand forcibly swayed by caine.

This theory is INSANE

I’d like to live through a week that’s not a whole new verse of “We Didn’t Start the Fire.”

I do have notifications still on for this post because I love the sense of community it gives me. We're all just staring at each other blankly and occasionally screaming.

Also for the people who have post dates turned on and just go JESUS CHRIST FOUR YEARS AGO?!

there's something compelling to me about the fact that sometimes leaving a blade or bullet inside the wound it made is the only way to prevent you from bleeding to death. something about the symbolism of it. when the thing designed and intended to kill you is the only thing keeping you alive.

also yes i do enjoy a bit of penetration imagery and the perverse intimacy of violence. if you must know.

Anonymous asked:

Im taking a class in ethics at evil university. Today the professor is asking us if it would be ok to divert a trolley to kill 5 people even if doing so would mean you saved 1 and justify our choice.

i'm not gonna do your homework for you, anon. if you can't write your own essays, how are you gonna be ready for when you need to make a speech to the hero about your evil schemes? are you going to ask fucking chatgpt to monologue for you?

if you want a hint, though, consider that nothing in the premise forbids you from finding the person whose life you 'saved' later

That's a cop-out. You can respond to any evil hypothetical with "and then I kill more people" to justify your choice. You can kill someone after not pulling the lever, too.

and, to be clear, you are of the opinion that 'you can justify whichever choice you want' is an undesirable property in a theory of evil ethics?

"Oh, its ok for me to help people If I might kill more in the future." Oh what, so I guess it'd be ok to give a bunch of people clean water just because you later develop chemical weapons? You're line of thinking is morally solvent.

and thus you see the problem with the absolutist, black-and-white thinking of villains these days. "waaa waaa you can't do nice things for people that makes you as good as the heroes"

have you even considered how much easier it is to get people to trust your chemicals are safe if your reputation is "that nice lady who gave us clean water"? no, of course not, you just get into pissing contests on social media about who is more corrupt, entirely divorced from any real-world practice of evil. y'all think it's more important to do nothing right than something wrong.

If you're disabled/chronically ill*, I need you to try this:

This is called "supported child's pose". I use a pillow/pillows to support my middle, and personally like to keep my head/chest higher than my hips**. I've been using it for years for my endo pain and recently found that it helps other stuff too 💖

*conditions/pains this helps: endometriosis/period pains, chesty coughs and blocked sinuses, bloating/gas/constipation, sciatica and stiffness, mental health/stress, migraines and tension headaches, upper airway obstruction

*conditions/pains this may worsen: osteoporosis, hip/knee pain, vomiting/diarrhea

**other good adaptations: elevate chest/head with high blood pressure, chest down and hips up for late-stage pregnancy (try wide leg downward dog)

I'm seeing a lot of people saying that they have stuff this could help with, but also have severe knee/joint pain. I'm hypermobile and honestly forgot to consider this, so here's some more adaptation ideas with a focus on knees and other leg joints!

  • Try raising your middle support, bringing your body into a kind of supported tabletop pose! This will keep knees and hips at a wider angle!
  • Try placing a pillow/bolster/etc across your calves and under your bum! This will keep knees angled wider, and lessen pressure on ankles/heels!
  • Try sitting with your legs out in front of you (either straight-ish, crossed, or lotus-style), with a high support on or between them to lean forwards on! This will widen knee angles and remove pressure on heels/ankles!
  • Try sitting on a chair with your feet hip-width apart and flat on the floor, your upper body leaning forwards across/between between them, and your arms hanging down towards the floor! This will keep knees and hips at a wider angle, and remove ankle pressure! (Be wary of headrush coming back up!)

Let me know if you'd like any other ideas on modifying this pose!

The other night husband and I were watching a documentary about the yeti where they were doing DNA analysis of samples of supposed yeti fur, and every one of them came back as bears.

Anyway, the next night we watched a thing about some pig man who is supposed to live in Vermont. People said it had claws and a pig nose but walked upright like a man. Now, I happen to know that sideshows used to shave bears and present them as pig men. So every piece of evidence they gave of this monster sounds to me like a bear with mange.

So now the running joke in our house is that everything is bears. Aliens? Bears. Loch Ness monster? Bear. Every cryptozoological mystery is just a very crafty bear.

Bears. They’re everywhere. Be wary. Anyone or anything could be a bear.

As the OP of this post, I’m going to threaten that if this gets to one million notes by the 10 year anniversary on 1 June 2026, one year from today, I will get a lower back tattoo of the loch ness bear monster.

Y'all know what to do Tumblr.

Not that anybody asked, but I think it's important to understand how shame and guilt actually work before you try to use it for good.

It's a necessary emotion. There are reasons we have it. It makes everything so. much. worse. when you use it wrong.

Shame and guilt are DE-motivators. They are meant to stop behavior, not promote it. You cannot, ever, in any meaningful way, guilt someone into doing good. You can only shame them into not doing bad.

Let's say you're a parent and your kid is having issues.

Swearing in class? Shame could work. You want them to stop it. Keep it in proportion*, and it might help. *(KEEP IT IN PROPORTION!!!)

Not doing their homework? NO! STOP! NO NOT DO THAT! EVER! EVER! EVER! You want them to start to do their homework. Shaming them will have to opposite effect! You have demotivated them! They will double down on NOT doing it. Not because they are being oppositional, but because that's what shame does!

You can't guilt people into building better habits, being more successful, or getting more involved. That requires encouragement. You need to motivate for that stuff!

If you want it in a simple phrase:

You can shame someone out of being a bad person, but you can't shame them into being a good person.

Fun fact, that was literally what inspired me to make this post!

HEADS UP: The U.S. Postal Service quietly changed how postmarks work.

Mail is no longer automatically postmarked with the date you drop it off. Instead, the postmark now reflects the date it’s first processed by an automated sorting facility — which can be days later.

If you mail something right at a deadline, the official postmark could be later than your drop-off date and may be considered late.

If mailing date matters to you, go inside the post office and request a hand-stamped postmark.
