usually when you have a stomach bug your body is like yes sir we’ll get this punk out of here, 48 hours tops. then you get a cold and your body is like I dunno … between a few hours and eleven months … maybe a week minimum …. you gotta understand we’re short staffed
tbf to the body, stomach bugs are easier to flush out since they are already in The System That Flushes Things Out From The Body, and that includes BOTH ends.
with a cold you gotta wait for the macrophages in your blood to start Eating Everything, and they are. not big. it takes them a while. please be more considerate of your macrophages in the future, theyre doing their best
I’ve got to find myself more macrophage

reading this is like seeing someone discover pokemon for the first time but they’re like “there’s a lizard that breathes fire? what the hell”

it’s actually crazy (as in “literally defiant of reality”) that psychiatry as a framework has been so widely embraced as a science when the vast majority of so-called mental illnesses are completely lacking any kind of construct validity.
the DSM, the most prominent diagnostic manual in the field, has pivoted in recent editions towards building a reputation for being rigorously scientific, the consensus product of intensive research and vigorous debate between experts. which is kind of true: many big names in the field make contributions and many thousands of research articles are considered in the course of each revision.
and indeed: the patterns of traits described in each section are known to be highly reliable. that is, people who suffer from feeling depressed often also report feeling hopeless; people who report worrying excessively often also have difficulty falling asleep; people observed to have patterns of unstable relationships often also get told that they have a sharp temper (note the shift in phrasing and the implications of who gets to wield epistemic authority). but any student of science can tell you that reliability is neither the same as nor a substitute for validity.
some psychological phenomena, like panic attacks, are strongly validated. the construct is neatly defined in a way that is easily operationalized and can be observed and measured across cultures (which makes sense, given that panic attacks are a largely physiological response which can be assessed through even simple biometrics). but most others are not. psychiatric diagnoses are not made on a psychological basis. consequently, it is possible for two people to both have diagnoses of major depression disorder with no overlapping traits or diagnostic criteria. the long-championed “low serotonin” hypothesis of depression has been debunked by clinical research. whether you get diagnosed with trauma or personality disorder may depend on your gender, sexuality, and/or the circumstances of your experiences. whether you have are #neurodivergent or an ontologically criminal person with ASPD or ODD is often a matter of your race more than any actual difference in clinical presentation.
there are no blood tests for psychiatric diagnoses. diagnoses are not made on the basis of brain scans (fmri studies are infamous for poor replication and confirmation bias (itself ironically an extremely well documented psychological construct)). psychiatric diagnoses are assessed and assigned based on cultural biases of the assessors. those who would reassure themselves that newer assessment tools are increasingly more inclusive are ignoring that the core assumption of psychiatry, that a medical framework is the most appropriate way in which to define and interpret subjective distress, is itself a cultural bias and not a prediscursive fact of nature.
with all this in mind, we ought to be incredibly more skeptical of a discipline founded on such shaky ground, particularly when it promises that our distress is best resolved through individual regimens of talk therapy and psychotropic medications.
i’m so fucking over it
Oh so you’d rather use eugenics on animals and abuse them instead? 🙄
i was about to get violent then i saw the handle im crying
My friend Mohammed, his daughter Mona, and their whole family are currently trying to escape Gaza as the opportunity to do so presents itself again.
As time goes on and people continue to doubt the legitimacy of Gazan fundraisers, I must reaffirm that I know Mohammed personally, and have been in close communication with him for over a year. If nothing else, I can offer a picture of Mona by the tent they’ve been able to afford with previous donations.
Thank you to everyone who has supported. Please, if you can, continue to support Mohammed and Mona. Even just reblogging this post would be a great help

BREAKING: 21-year-old protester, Kaden Rummler, was shot point-blank in the face by ICE. he just spoke about how he’s blind for life and almost died:
“I will be blind for life. I have fractures in my skull that they can’t fix. They pulled a piece of plastic the size of a nickel out of my eye. I had shards of metal, glass, and plastic behind my eye and in my skull. They said it was a miracle I survived.”
What the hell is wrong with these people?
