what you learn from hobbies:

  • consistent practice opens up whole worlds of skill that you couldn't imagine
  • making mistakes in the process of learning is not only natural, it is also essential
  • activities that you enjoy can give you more energy back than you spent on them
  • wow everything is so expensive

No, seriously, do NOT.

Feeling dirty and grimy for extended periods of time is extremely draining on the mental well-being of humans. Psychological studies prove it is detrimental to our self-esteem and contentment. And no wonder; we are animals--homo sapiens, a kind of ape--that instinctively places high importance on personal grooming. Like monkeys and cats and birds in a zoo, one of the best ways to make us feel sad ... is to make us feel gross to ourselves.

So here's an easy saying from my therapist/zookeeper:

"If you feel like you hate the world, eat something.

If you feel like the world hates you, get some sleep.

If you feel like you hate yourself, take a shower.

You will probably feel much better."

ok, bit of a serious post. i really hate having to do this.

my partner and i are currently facing eviction. as many of you know, we recently experienced a significant deterioration in symptoms of amnesia and cognitive impairment that led to a diagnosis of Dissociative Identity Disorder. this has left me homebound and unable to work, and my partner is unable to support both of us on her own.

things are looking up, but we won't be able to recover without help. there are more details on the fundraiser page. if you have ever liked anything we've made, whether it be our own music, or our music with Avid, our streams, our channel content, or anything, it would mean the world if you could help us so we can keep making the art you love. even if it's just sharing the link around.

there are a NUMBER of folktale Woman-Creatures like selkies who exist to make the inherently coercive nature of heterosexual marriage explicit and to externalize male anxiety about how if your wife had actual autonomy she very well might disappear and you might never fucking hear from her again

which is a FASCINATING category of Woman-Creature imo
