For all the trans girlies who have never had long hair, here’s a fun fact about what split ends are and how to identify them.
Split ends are, to simplify, hair damage concentrated near the tips of your hair, either from heat or just time peeling your hair like string cheese. There are a lot of different variations–
–Ranging from actual splits, to knots, to your hair just being bent permanently. The reason these are such a bitch is that those damaged ends will catch on EVERYTHING. Notably, they catch on each other and cause those horrible mats you may be waking up to each morning.
If you look closely at your hair and your eyes are good you can sometimes physically see the splits. Using my own hair I just trimmed as an example here, you can physically see where the texture of it changes when the light catches it.
But, the easiest way to identify it is the texture. Running your fingers down a strand of hair, it should have a silky feeling all the way down to the base. If the tips feel dry, rough, or catch easily then your hair is splitting and the only way to fix it is to trim off the damage.
Left unchecked, your hair will keep splitting and you’ll actually lose length when you inevitably have to chop it off.
Make sure to trim just a smidge of your hair at least every other month or so and you’ll be able to grow it out way longer than you could otherwise and you’ll stop getting mats that rip out your hair when you untangle them
But when I say the “wholesome and funny” YouTube short I have been handed of students surprise showing their teachers 10+ year old photos of themselves and most them were emo/goth in some way and every single one now has medium brown beach waves and is wearing head to toe beige and immediately screams and hides the photo like it’s the most embarrassing thing in the world is a hallmark of a deeply insidious tendency to associate socially acceptable WASPy aesthetics with maturity and responsibility and perpetuates the idea that everyone grows up, “gets right” and becomes the most digestible unobtrusive heterosexual I’m “taking it too seriously”
“It’s not that serious” oh but it issssss because every day we perpetuate the idea that non-conformity of any kind to the white straight middle class standard is inherently immature and gets “left behind” when someone becomes a socially acceptable adult
This idea that maturity is conformity is everywhereeee if you look for even a moment
I can’t speak for other social media webbed sites but I really enjoy how tumblr seems to just completely spin a wheel on whatever media is hot right now. Like yeah sometimes it’s a new show that’s big and actively coming out but also sometimes there will be a solid month where half my dash is Columbo memes. Defy authority. Get really into an book from the 1800s. Watch shows that haven’t aired in 40 years. Celebrate the anniversary of the Boston Molasses Flood. Become unmarketable
Haven’t seen anyone talking about it here, but vocal transfeminist and writer Tara Knight has been sent a threat from the fbi insisting that she stop speaking about “radical gender ideology” and get rid of the past 3 years of her work.
A black trans woman is getting personally threatened by the fbi for being a transfeminist. What the fuck. Hopefully this gets more reach than my usual posts so that people who are able to can support her.

finding out that ‘dont treat me rough treat me really niceys” is an actual lana del rey lyric and not just a funny meme phrase was damaging enough to my psyche
but then i looked up the lyrics and not only is that line directly after the lyric “drugs, suck it up, like vanilla icies” (rhyming niceys with icies) but also the first line of the song is “my pussy tastes like Pepsi cola”. ms del rey this is disastrous what are you doing
