The author of this scripture possesses the belief that they have amassed a sufficient abundance of creative musings for a sequel, if the consensus demands drastically incrementing verboseness. Additionally, it is imperative to consider this crucial aspect, the ursine intercourse role-playing video game adaptation of Dungeons & Dragons, 5th Edition shall, regrettably, delay the production. Furthermore, a response is requested to be dictated by the adipose acorns.

Addendum, the anniversary of the author's cretinous machinations to the leaf water avian artwork address is on the morrow.

my mom was trying to chew through some really tough steak and she turned to me and said “just call me The Gnawer.” she would do numbers here

Hey. Your brain needs to de-frag. Literally it needs you to sit there and space out.

If you want your memory or executive function to improve, stare out a window at the skyline or sidewalk or trees or birds on the electrical wires for like 20+ minutes per day. (With no other stimulation like a podcast or TV if you can manage but hey baby steps innit). If you're fortunate enough to have safe outside with any bits of nature, go stare closely at a 1 meter square of grass and trip out on the bugs and shapes of grasses and stuff.

Literally this will make you smarter. Our brains HAVE TO HAVE this zone out time to do important stuff behind the scenes. This does not happen during sleep, it's something else.

That weird pressurized feeling you get sometimes might be your brain on no defrag.

Give your brain a Daily Dose Of De-Frag.

i hate it when people say things that exclude the disabled and then say "i wasnt talking about disabled people" like yeah you never are that's the issue. you never think about disabled people

I've said it before and I'll say it again, disability absolutely needs to be brought up when discussing homelessness due to there being a rather significant amount of homeless people who also happen to be disabled in some way, shape, or form.

as a former escape room host i highly recommend doing an escape room as a first date. its a great way to learn how ppl react under pressure and how well they collaborate with you right off the bat. also more than once ive seen people enter an escape room as a couple and exit broken up LOL its a fantastic litmus test

sorry to broadcast ur tags but this is also a valuable part of the litmus test! it seems like you learned a lot about how this person makes you feel in their social group. they didn't go out of their way to include you, and neither did their friends. therefore you can come to a pretty good conclusion about how you might feel being part of their life outside of an escape room; someone who doesnt include you or your feelings in a game is likely going to do the same in other situations

An experiment with a clear negative outcome is still a successful experiment.

Headcannon: I don't think Shuichi has a good relationship with food.

Unfortunately I also think this is probably canon. Maybe.

At the start of Chapter 2, the morning after Kaede's execution, Kaito pays Shuichi a visit and invites him to breakfast (kind of implying everyone has to be there for them to have breakfast), and then Shuichi goes "I don't usually eat breakfast so..."

Later in the same chapter, there's a nighttime announcement where the Kubz decide to do a cooking show thing and they make... wait, what did they make again? *checks notes* Spicy kimchi chicken & rice bowl... anyway, Shuichi's immediate reaction to this is "...I wouldn't eat that greasy food even if they threatened to kill me." Note that he specifies he wouldn't eat it because it's greasy.

Not sure if this is anything, but in Kaede's FTEs in the bonus mode, there's this moment where Kaede asks him what kinds of foods he likes, and if you answer vegetables (ahem, healthy vegetables), Kaede says "are you worried about your calorie intake?", and then Shuichi says "A little bit... I'm not athletic, I gain weight easily..."

On their own, these things aren't so bad, but together... I have concerns...

(I also have to wonder if Shuichi's parents both being in the entertainment industry have anything to do with this)

(I wonder if there are more moments that I'm forgetting)

Something else of note related to this is that in Love Across the Universe, Shuichi can suggest fasting to everyone. Every single person except Korekiyo dislikes or hates it. Here's a few particularly notable reactions:

Himiko, Maki, and Kirumi all reject the notion and state the danger of it. The authors are aware of what they're doing.

Kaito is appaled by the idea and seems to assume that Shuichi is sick. It's notable to me that he blames himself for this.

Kiibo, Tsumugi, and Rantaro all express concern for his emotional well-being. They're all worried about him.

Just something I found interesting in context with the rest of the post. Thanks for sharing!

Ooh, I have a bone to pick with Salmon Mode for this (rant incoming).

Fasting does not equal starvation and does not equal killing yourself or hurting yourself. Unless you fasted for a ridiculously long period of time, which is not how you're supposed to do that, most people who fast don't do so for more than a day at a time, usually it's a lot less time than that, and if you actually fast for a day or more, then yeah I will start having concerns. I myself grew up around people of different cultures, many of which practiced some form of fasting for one reason or another. I myself grew up in a culture which does practice fasting on certain days. My family and I never really did this ourselves, and that's our choice, but either way, fasting is not inherently bad.

I am surprised that nearly everyone in this game is horrified or concerned from just the suggestion of fasting, even characters like Kaito and Rantaro who I think are open enough to other cultures that I feel like they shouldn't react the way they do. It would be a different story if they went "I don't want to do this myself but if you want to try it that's cool," but they all react as if Shuichi suggested something heinous.

I have to wonder if this is a translation error...

Sorry, rant over.

That aside, it is pretty interesting that almost everyone doesn't take the suggestion of fasting/not eating well. And the fact that it's an option in the first place is pretty telling.

Hello! I saw this in my own research on the DRV3 kids, but mostly dismissed it as Shuichi's classmates misunderstanding what he meant... until I saw this post bringing up that it might be a translation error. So I decided to check! (Note: I am not well-versed in Japanese, and this is entirely based on context clues from the internet and the game, so take this with a huge grain of salt.)

My conclusion: while it's not technically a mistranslation, the alarming connotation behind Shuichi's statement completely lost context.

For starters, the "fasting" prompt in English is "Let's try fasting.", but in Japanese, it's only the word "断食" (danjiki), which is just a noun (not a full statement). By dictionary definition, this is the Japanese word for fasting, and its Wikipedia article corroborates this, citing how it is often practiced in religions.

However, when I searched 断食 on the internet, the first thing that came up was a Chinese page from the Mayo Clinic (medical website), which surprised me. After looking at both Chinese and Japanese results for the word, nearly every single first-page article was about fasting in the sense of not eating to lose weight - intermittent fasting over a long period of time. (I use Startpage, but Google has these results too, I checked.) Searching for the word on Reddit yielded the same results.

This would explain why Korekiyo, who outright states he recognizes fasting as a cultural custom, it the only person who reacts to this positively. Everyone else who hears Shuichi say it is looking at it from the perspective of weight loss, and their varying reactions corroborate this. (Kirumi also understands it's sometimes religious, but clearly assumes that's not why Shuichi is bringing it up.)

Due to both the results I found and all the characters' negative reactions, I think that while "Let's try fasting" is not an incorrect interpretation of the 断食 option, it's clearly not portraying what the characters are hearing Shuichi say. (Especially since most characters react like he's suggesting it only for himself, as opposed to the group implication of "let's".) It think "I'm not gonna eat." would have made more sense here, even if it omits the noun "fast".

So yeah! A lot of this context does support the "Shuichi has a weird relationship would food" narrative imo, and tbh I feel like his classmates aren't wrong for being worried.

Hi there! That's an interesting find and an interesting conclusion! I agree that "I'm not going to eat" would make a lot more sense given these reactions.

(I still find the majority of the reactions OTT, even from the perspective of weight loss, but from that lens it does make a lot more sense)(I have to wonder if everyone besides Korekiyo realizes that fasting ≠ starvation unless you took it to the extreme which you're not supposed to).

And from that lens, it also contributes to the headcannon.

Thank you for sharing this!

insane how many people just have these incredible artists in their families who get no recognition outside of crocheting circles because this art form is devalued for its association with women

in my country, the word for crocheting, is used metaphorically, to compliment a surgeon’s work.

every AFAB person my mother’s age and older, had practiced this craft at one point on another.

My mom has made literal paintings, that decorate our house for years (I’ll come back with pictures when I visit next) you can only see that they are crocheting when you go very close.

as promised here’s my mom’s crocheting “paintings”

There is another one but it had been stored many years ago, (i remember it from my childhood) and sadly it is probably damaged by mold, it depicted wild horsed running in nature

On all levels except the most literal I am the librarian in this story

[Image Description:

A tweet by Afolabi Sokeye 🧱 @/sokeyea that reads, "What's the lore behind your current career path?" @/dicequeendi retweets this with, "Got into D and D (dungeons and dragons). Years later found a 'dungeon master class' on Facebook. It's an hour out of the city. Arrive. It's not the D and D kind. Sure why not. Can now get paid for monitoring dungeons. Chatting with a librarian while she's getting whipped. 'You should work at a library!' Sure why not."

/End I.D.]
