first foodborne illness outbreak of 2026! this one unfortunately belongs to a nutritional supplement popular with disabled people. popular for smoothies. far from the first recall this year though.
this is a powder that was sold nationwide on the live it up website and other online retailers including ebay, amazon, and walmart as far back as january 2025. expiration dates range from august 2026 to january 2028.
as of right now, 45 illnesses have been linked to this outbreak, with 12 hospitalizations. the vast majority of salmonella infections never get counted. this outbreak has likely sickened closer to 1,300 people. and live it up is being pretty shitty about it!
like nearly all foodborne illness outbreaks, the illnesses actually began months ago, it just took until 2026 to track down the product and declare an outbreak.
Superfoods Inc. DBA as Live it Up of New York, New York is recalling all Live it Up Super Greens, including both Original and Wild Berry flavors, with lots beginning with the letter “A” and all stick pack products due to possible contamination with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis. The recalled product was sold across the United States online through our direct-to-consumer website since January, 2025 and on Amazon.com since July 30, 2025.
emphasis mine. salmonella infection can cause lifelong pain and disability. the contaminated products were sold online as far back as january 2025. so either they never did salmonella testing in a full ~12 months, or they got a positive result and kept selling it anyway. fun!
good time to mention that supplements are hardly regulated in the US. either the manufacturer chooses to uphold safety standards for their products or they get away with whatever happens next.
live it up’s website even reviews other supplements to make themselves seem more trustworthy. while skimping out on their own food safety to the point they may have already fucking killed people!
The recall includes the following products: -Live it Up Super Greens, NET WT 8.5 oz (240g) with UPC 860013190804. -Live it Up Super Greens, 30 – 0.28oz (8g) sticks, NET WT. 8.47 oz (240g) with UPC 850077468063 -Live it Up Super Greens, Wild Berry, NET WT 8.5OZ (240g), with UPC 860013190811 -Live it Up Super Greens, Wild Berry, 30 – 0.32oz (9g) Sticks, NET WT. 9.52oz (270g), with UPC 850077468070 The recalled products are packaged in green pouches. The lot code is printed on the bottom back of the packaging in black and begins with the letter “A” or the number “3” for a stick pack product. Additionally, the affected product has expiration dates from 08/2026 to 01/2028. Please see the example packaging and lot code below.
emphasis mine. the expiration dates are between august 2026 and january 2028, so this supplement might be making people sick for years to come. these are powders that are mixed with water, milk, smoothies. typically consumed cold or at room temperature without being heated enough to kill off salmonella.
Customers who have purchased the affected product are asked to dispose of it immediately, do not eat, sell, or serve the product. Customers may request a refund by contacting Live it Up at [email protected] and provide your name, order number and a photo of the product with lot codes beginning with “A” and stick pack products.

Symptoms of Salmonella Infection Illness usually occurs within 12 to 72 hours after eating food that is contaminated with Salmonella, and the symptoms usually last four to seven days. Symptoms include diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps. Children younger than five, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems are more likely to have severe infections.
rune (me) tip: when purchasing electrolytes and electrolyte mixes, look at the sodium content. you want to be rehydrating with something salty while shitting your brains out.
Based on epidemiological information collected by CDC, a total of 45 people infected with the outbreak strain of Salmonella have been reported from 21 states. Illnesses started on dates ranging from August 22, 2025, to December 30, 2025. Sixteen of 20 ill persons with information available reported consuming Live it Up-brand Super Greens dietary supplement powder before becoming ill. There have been 12 hospitalizations, and no deaths have been reported.

so, the specific states that currently have linked cases is irrelevant here, because this was sold to every state. the total number of people sick is likely above 1,300, as the CDC estimates roughly 1 in 30 salmonella infections. no deaths have been linked to this outbreak yet, but just like there are likely a shitload of illnesses and hospitalizations more than what got linked, there is a chance people have already died without being counted, too.
remember, this is a company that targets people likely to have compromised immune systems – people more likely to experience long-term harm or death from salmonella infection. fucking bastards
Consumers and retailers who purchased recalled Live it Up-brand Super Greens products should not eat, sell, or serve this product and should throw it away. FDA is determining if additional recalls are necessary and will update this advisory as more information becomes available.
the currently identified illnesses range from 16 years old to 81 years old, with a median age of 45. based off of analysis, this strain of salmonella is not predicted to be antibiotic resistant.
when a case of salmonella is reported and counted, it takes 3-4 weeks for it to become associated with an outbreak. now that people know these products are contaminated, it takes ~3 weeks before anyone who saw the outbreak/recall could have their illnesses counted if they went and reported to their doctor that same day.
and of course, one of the most important things you can do to help protect other people in your community, if this is an option, is to report your food poisoning. going to the doctor for food poisoning, even if you do not require a prescription to recover, helps kick off investigations like these before more people get seriously hurt. some types of food poisoning can take months to cause symptoms, so keeping a journal of the things you put in your mouth can also be immensely helpful when trying to protect those around you.
