I know I haven’t posted regularly on this blog in years but I’m not seeing a whole lot of posts on this site about what’s happening in Minneapolis right now. And the posts I am seeing are not covering the scope of it. I’m genuinely surprised because tumblr is usually where I find out about things organically through my feed. So I’m making a post about it.
A brief summary of events, from someone who pays attention and also lives here, best taken with a grain of salt and some fact checking:
2020: George Floyd is murdered by Minneapolis police. There are weeks of protests about it. It makes national news. Protests happen in DC. The infamous Trump and his bible photo shoot happens.
2024: Gov. Tim Walz is Kamala Harris’ running mate in the presidential election. He starts the “they’re just weird” thing. Is folksy, Trump personally hates him.
November 2025: ICE starts showing up to “crack down” on “illegal immigrants” in our Somali community. I may remember the numbers wrong, but something like 90% of our Somali neighbors are either naturalized or were born here. People distribute ICE whistles and are on high alert. Localized to the twin cities.
December 2025: Nick Shirley is paid by a bunch of MN Republicans to do an exposé on daycare fraud. I didn’t hear much about this. All I really know is this was an ongoing investigation that MN officials were already taking care of and some of the guilty parties have already gone to court from a COVID era food assistance program. Mostly, if not all, legal US citizens. He did a really bad job at doing journalism and just showed up to day cares with a camera crew and went “YUP nobody’s here” as if they weren’t in lock-down procedure because some fuck ass white men showed up with camera equipment that could easily be mistaken for guns. I believe. I will fact check all of this and will correct myself in a reblog if necessary. (source but not all the details that I remember hearing about but they said there was no recorded evidence of fraud)
Conservative internet explodes. Kristi Noem sends a mess of agents. I know it’s more than a thousand more. They call it Operation Metro Surge. They are going everywhere. There are protests. People try to interrupt the arrests. It’s a lot.
1/7/2026: Renee Nicole Good is shot by an ICE agent in the middle of a protest. A few blocks away from where George Floyd was killed. Broad daylight. In front of a crowd. While she was following instructions to turn her vehicle around. Jonathan Ross, the piece of shit Nazi who did it, was recording on his phone the whole time, switched his phone to his non dominant hand so he could more effectively shoot her in the face from 2 feet away. Claims self defense, several angles immediately disprove him. He releases his video, he calls her a “fucking bitch” as her corpse drives away. Does not help him at all. (source) He has not been seen since. Some photos/reports exist of a bunch of agents showing up to his house and taking some tubs and art away. His wife is an immigrant. (source but it’s the daily mail so grain of salt.)
Not hours later they go raid a school and tear gas a bunch of kids. (source). Minneapolis has switched to distance learning. I’m not sure about St. Paul.
The last week: There are up to 3,000 ICE agents here. Keep in mind Minneapolis and St. Paul only have 600 or fewer police officers each. So these dudes are roaming in packs. It’s 2-4 dudes to a car and 2-5 cars per pack. People are “commuting with” ICE agents to honk and alert people that they’re there. People are going on patrols with their neighbors.
ICE is no longer asking “are you a citizen.” They are simply walking up to you and taking you into custody. They are going door to door. They have started just breaking the door down if you don’t comply. They are driving recklessly to just grab pedestrians and drivers alike (source). People are afraid to go get groceries. It’s all over the state. I am learning names of cities in places I thought were just factory farm land and I’ve lived here my whole life because they’re doing raids there. I had to text my family in the suburbs because I saw reports of my small little hometown an hour away getting door knocks today.
It’s insane and I am not doing it justice. There are thousands of masked federal agents roaming around all of Minnesota with no warrant or specific goal. They are just trolling around looking for people. They are detaining anyone and everyone. They are beating people. They are pepper spraying people. They are kidnapping people. They are acting unconstitutionally, aggressively, and unpredictably. They are creating situations that are dangerous so that they can try to justify beating or shooting their way out. I will run an errand and then get fed a tiktok that was shot from the Cub Foods that I just left and there’s 20+ ICE vehicles parked there now. They’re taking people from work, from day care, from schools, from shopping centers.

And from today.
They have cut off SNAP and WIC benefits. Just for us. Not any other state, just Minnesota. They’re saying it’s because of fraud but I think it’s because they hate that we use federal funds to give free breakfast and lunch to every public school student.
And this is breaking just now, 1/13/2026: the DOJ is trying to investigate Renee Good’s widow. 4 people have resigned about it. (source). I don’t even want to read the article to see what they’re saying.
So that’s a brief history.
Unicorn Riot is doing a lot of good reporting and they don’t seem to have the spin that a lot of local news stations will have where they downplay everything. This article specifically goes into a lot of the specific instances of brutality.
It’s also a rumor on TikTok that all of the videos of ICE and protests and the such and the like are being geo locked. So my feed is all footage of people being detained and talking about the “commuting” they’re doing and what they’re seeing but people outside of the state are not seeing it. So if you’re also on that infernal app, try searching for Minneapolis or Minnesota and see what you see. I’m kind of curious if this is true. Because I’ve been living and breathing ICE and doomsday prepping content for a week. I’m sure those two topics aren’t connected.
I don’t really know what my goal with this post is. I’m tired. I’m in the first ring of suburbs, so it’s been pretty quiet. But I have friends in south Minneapolis. And I’m worried for them. And I know it’s a matter of time before my quiet pocket is affected. Because they’re coming door to door.
Pay attention to Minnesota, I think an example is being made of us.
I’ve been monitoring this closely because I have friends in the area, and because I think every city in the country is at risk of having the feds come to do what they’re doing in Minnesota, and we all need to get ready.
There are some Twin Cities activists who have been very clearly laying out what they’re doing, and why it’s effective at slowing down ICE. It sounds like all you really need, is neighborhood group chats where people can let one another know when and where ICE is present, and then people show up, start recording, and blowing whistles, and then ICE will leave again more often than not. This VERY SHORT thread by a Twin Cities activist outlines what to do and how it works.
Also: Minnesota Public Radio has been doing great coverage of what’s happening, and the local NBC affiliate has some excellent interviews with activists who were arrested and detained for hours.
And finally, some good news: the courts restored SNAP funding.

but it could bebut there is more rattling around in here so:- The Blitz here manages to qualify as Britain’s Darkest Hour, thus triggering the return of Arthur from the Realm Avalon.
- He does not speak a lick of modern English. He speaks an unholy mishmash of Brittonic and Late Classical Latin.
- (Honestly I can see the latter becoming a plot point if they manage to get their hands on a Roman Catholic priest to act as a translator. It wouldn’t be a perfect arrangement, but probably better than anything else.)
- Truthfully he probably gets mistaken for a madman.
- Somehow manages to steal a Spitfire out from under the RAF’s nose, proceeds to use it to bring down like half an enemy squadron on his own, then lands in a field in the middle of nowhere.
- Police and RAF converge on his location on account of the whole “stealing a plane” thing. They eventually overwhelm him with sheer numbers, but he manages to knock out an impressive number of them in the process. I mean, come on. It’s Arthur.
“a catholic priest” i mean yeah sure why not but JRRTOLKIEN himself was alive and a teacher at the time so go big or go home.
You know what sure why not let’s just make literal real-life JRRT himself a character in this Arthurian return story, he deserves it.

“Stop saying we’ll survive this because Renee Good didn’t!”
It’s very important to talk about what happened to Renee Good, the horror this administration has inflicted upon the world, and how we got here. I do not, however, think it is ever ethical to essentially encourage suicidal thoughts and aggressively tell people things will never get better. In fact, things won’t get better if everyone gives up and believes resistance is futile because we’re all dead anyway. In addition, someone trying to talk themselves out of a dark place isn’t necessarily undermining what happened to Renee, either. The people saying we’ll survive are generally people who are scared and have taken Trump seriously for years, not the people who downplayed him before the election.
I’ll say what I began saying in January of last year; if you’re really in such a dark place, you have no right to drag others down with you. It’s not “raising awareness” to scream at people trying to get through the day during very unsettling times. When you’re telling people to stop even saying we’ll survive, what are you actually doing? What are you accomplishing? If your answer is “being aggressively hopeless until my last breath”, then go do that somewhere else.
@thebreakfastgenie Such a mood. Like I am not still working on improving my mental health after the toll the 2024 election took for some doomer to try to make me suicidal again. Nope! Not interested. I assume some of the doom brigade are severely depressed themselves but I struggle to sympathize like get help, stop trying to drag everyone else down with you. And it drives me nuts when people act like believing in survival is somehow dismissing how bad it is. Bad isn’t hopeless! Maybe people who didn’t pay attention to Trump before the election(s) are just processing in a fundamentally different way? Idk I can’t imagine living like that lol.
Oh I definitely think part of this is that people really didn’t believe things would get this bad, so they’re having a delayed reaction and are feeling what we felt before or immediately after the election. There’s a reason why I cried every day for about 3 months straight, but have shed few tears lately. I was actually just talking about that with my supervisor; she asked me if I’d seen what happened to Renee Good, and I said yes, and, “Some people really screwed up over a year ago and didn’t think anything would fundamentally change. But I knew. That’s why I was crying my eyes out the next day and needed to go home from work.”
She said, “Yes, I remember that.” (She’d comforted me in that time. She’d just gotten citizenship, and despite her facing hardships in Algeria, I think she’s shocked over the past year.)
But I’d also put myself back in therapy immediately after the election because I knew what a bad place I was in, and I didn’t want this administration to kill me. We must live to see this end. We have to try, and we can’t be dragged down by people who’ve given up. As I said many times, Trump 1.0 taught me that daily misery doesn’t change current events, and only puts your own life on hold

I haven’t said this before because I don’t want to be misconstrued as undermining what’s happening, but this is actually my take as well. The administration is WEAK. They’re desperately trying to display strength, which is dangerous because they see violence as strength, but Renee’s death only increased protests against ICE. You have people shouting at ICE, “You can’t kill all of us!” People simply aren’t going down without a fight. The National Guard was told to get out of the states that didn’t request them (like CA). Resistance is much stronger now than it was this time last year; just think of how bleak things felt in January-February 2025. Trump is polling underwater on basically every issue, and not by a small amount. The administration keeps LOSING in a lot of ways. All their attempts to prosecute their enemies have been thrown out by courts thus far. They couldn’t even keep Jimmy Kimmel off the air. They drastically lowered hiring standards and training times for ICE officers because they’re NOT hitting their hiring goals and NOT hitting their deportation quotas. Democrats did very well in elections last year, and they could very well overperform this November in the midterms
Things have, indeed, gotten scarier as things fall apart more, but it doesn’t mean they aren’t falling apart. This will end. It’s still a long road until the end, but we inch closer to the end every day. It doesn’t mean bad things won’t happen until then, but it means we need to keep trying to survive and looking forward to when he’s gone forever and we can pick up the pieces

I use 2FA on every website I log into, and it didn’t ask for any details when I took the survey, but I still don’t trust that thing at all. One can never be too safe.

hi, i did some research on this but this link was not phishing and here’s why:
qualtrics is a legit website that companies pay to host data gathering surveys to collect metrics on various things. you can also create free surveys but from what i understand the survey results aren’t as in-depth as the paid versions get you.
it looks like the survey originates from a banner on the discord app and you click on it and it takes you to the site and you do the thing there. it was only rolled out to a certain amount of people (for the purposes to maybe only get people they thought would be pro-AI? who knows with Discord) but was then passed around everywhere because Fuck AI. And then Discord realized that things weren’t going the way they wanted and pulled the survery.
I did some further research on the URL itself:
From ESET link checker it rates it as safe, I also plugged it into a few others as well like Fortinet and Bitdefender and both of those came back safe too, here’s a screenshot of ESET:

no keyloggers or malware after I clicked on the link (it’s been 8 hours now and my discord account is fine).
hopefully, this will quell some panic about the discord thing, its always good practice to protect your account with MFA when it’s offered and to change your password when you suspect something may not be right, it’s better to err on the side of caution etc, but in this case, it’s alright and there’s no need to create any undue panic about a link to a survey. fuck AI and Discord should know better than to try and pull more wool over its userbases’ eyes because did they not learn from the NFT thing?
