Currently re-reading the Grisha trilogy and one thing I had totally forgotten is that Alina is actually funny as hell. Like.

damn, alina was so lucky to have nikolai as her friend. because who wouldn’t want a friend who, upon ascending the throne of a kingdom, decided to permanently alter the centuries-old heraldry of his royal house just to include my personal symbol?

oh, and i suppose it’s mundane. and that it’s probably necessary. except he could have chosen anything that screamed "i am a war hero and an inventor," but instead he chose to make a statement that his kingship really was built on her light. he could have chosen anything as a symbol since his oldest grisha friends weren’t alina. and yet, he didn’t. he didn’t just honour her; he integrated her, ensuring that every time a citizen looked at a coin, a banner, carriage doors, uniforms, or a royal seal, they were looking at her.

the literal face of the new version of his reign was her. he saw himself and her as so intertwined that they became a single unit—to the point where you cannot mention his reign without mentioning her. he ensured she was by his side on that throne even while she was living a quiet life elsewhere, dead to the public, knowing he would never get a thank you or a wedding out of it. yes, he did all that even when she was already "dead." that new crest basically made her his co-regent in the eyes of history.

and when he eventually descended from that throne, he closed his chapter with her still intertwined with him. but sure, it’s just about a man who binds himself and his country to a girl [space] friend he only “sort of liked.” i, too, weave my crush’s soul into my national identity just for the mundane fun of it.

i would love to have a “friend” like that.

okay so i just (binge) rewatch season 1 to 3 bc the last time i watched them it was like season 4 and i dont remember a lot from those previous seasons which was why i rewatched before finally watching the fifth season but… i can’t believe how tiring jopper is like??? literally where’s the appeal? he’s an aggressive and borderline abusive cop with apparent anger management issues and has shown misogynistic tendencies through and throughout season 3. especially towards joyce. like that bitch was so fucking aggressive towards joyce, whose life was hard. she had to live with a toxic fucker like lonnie, then raised her two boys alone and somewhat they’re kinda poor, then her life got turned upside down bc of the whole upside down thing and will was one of the victim, then she finally got love from bob ONLY for bob to die right in front of her fucking eyes, and you want me to root for her and an asshole like hopper??? 😭 and murray you better not piss the fucking shit outta me, dude. i’m so fucking tired of the bullshit that arguments means chemistry bc no, it just shows how toxic the ship is. murray saying just fuck! just have sex! no bitch, joyce should have shot hoepper’s fucking boiling head instead! i just really don’t fw hopper man. idk if it’s gonna get better but until now, i just wanna see him dead omg. and while we’re at it i’m gonna have to say it. stop giving characters with clear anger management issues a love interest! yes, there i said it. especially for someone like hopper. he’s a cop, a CHIEF at that, a chief who’s often times is ARMED to top it with a cherry. and he’s old. there’s no way someone like him can and will magically turn into a kind loving father and husband when he was a terrible father to el and a terrible friend (YES he didn’t even date joyce in s3 and yet act all possessive like a fucking manchild) to joyce! i’m always so fucking tired of this kinda trope. idc if the abusive and aggressive bitch is a man or a woman on that ship. i literally don’t care. unless u showed them going to fucking therapy and showing the audience their fucking progress, they don’t deserve love. not before they love themselves and make peace with themselves first. i just don’t see it with hopper. with all the constant problems hawkins faces, he’s the superior. he’s always on the top, which is why he mostly gives orders and can’t really cooperate (often times choosing to do it himself). the situation and circumstance of his life doesn’t allow him to be a better (and different!) person, and with him being old, it’s harder for him to change when he has spent his adulthood seeing people tolerating his bs. like yeah i’m projecting but i grew up with parents like this and ya you guys really shouldn’t procreate i mean it… not only will you hurt your partner (especially if the partner is like the “simp” one, or the “gentle” one, or the one who keeps tolerating your bullshits… omg, core recipe of domestic violence), you will also hurt your children! and most likely even everyone surrounding you! and i think that’s why i always hate aggressive and abusive characters bc like… i get that u got a hard time in life (and i do feel sorry about sarah), but everyone got shits in their lives, and yet NOT EVERYBODY makes it everybody’s problems. because guess what? in the end, it’s a FUCKING CHOICE. like even at my worst, i’m still fucking considerate. so idc about those kinda characters. u don’t need a love interest, bitch. u need a fucking psychiatrist.

They gave Eleven's WHOLE storyline to him, even the fucking rivalry with Henry and the friendship with Max

Do not get me wrong, I love Will and I hated the fact that the duffers sidelined him so much in the third and fourth season but narratively they boxed themselves in on that one. I can never forgive them for what they did to El. Why was the only way to make him 'useful' have to be what should rightfully belong to El. Why was the only way to keep him a worthy character was to drag El down.

We saw the whole laughing and hugging scene with Max, When that should rightfully have been Els, considering the fact that the two of them (max and will) hardly interacted as compared to Max and El.

And sure you can say that it happened off screen— love the friendships blooming, But why in the everloving hell did you nerf the original friendship. What happened to the bond that we saw in season 3 and 4. That was doing El dirty.

And the whole Henry storyline, give me a break. BECAUSE WDYM WILL RELATED TO HIM MORE. More than the girl who shared years upon years of torture and trauma with him? They have got to be fucking with me.

Will's powers are innate? NO THEY FUCKING AREN'T, at best they are borrowed. It doesn't come from within him, it doesn't belong to him, it brought him no grief, so in what godamn way are they innate?

And here is the parallel that make me want to actually commit to killing the Duffers.

While El's powers brought her nothing but sorrow her entire life no matter how hard she fought, Will's powers brought him a sense of peace and were what ended the war.

And don't get me started on the whole childhood magic rhetoric they're pushing.

All the fucked up decisions they made were all made to make El seem less human, more detached. Think about it. Cutting off her friendship with Max, cutting of her connection to Jonathan, only connecting her to Will for plot convenience, no connection to Lucas, none with Dustin limited interactions with everyone really

The only people she really talked to, were Hopper, Kali and Mike. Arguably the people who would end up grieving her the most. And they even in the end you see Hopper at peace with it. Sure okay whatever man. Guess Ya'll grew up or whatever. Yeah you grew up long after you actually grew up it seems. I call Bullshit.

Everyone and their mothers can say that Will was the main character, but I will never ever believe that. Fuck this shit. I'm so glad we got the show but jesus christ, it's like Daenerys and Natasha all over again. what eric heisserer did to alina’s character was absolutely devastating

first of all she got less than two hours of the whole timeline of the whole s2 as a main character.

if they made shadow and bone crossed with the crows, which was absolutely unnecessary and dumb decision because they sidelined even crows themselves and didn’t enlighten none of the problems crows themselves suffered like what jesper and nina felt as grishas or what happened to inej. all of it just to lift kaz’s backstory.

and yes, if they made kaz and alina leads, why kaz got his lines from the books and alina got none when originally this show & books were about her and her only

they promised they’d explore alina’s heritage but by some reasons she was the only person who didn’t get any backstory and they left no clue who are her parents and did other sun summoners exist before. sorry I don’t accept the book ending either because alina was only special and leigh left her powerless with some stinky otkazat’sya on a farm.

and what we got? “empty promises” as said alina in s2 but darkling’s promises were real and the writers’ aren’t. even jessie mei li wasn’t much comfortable about the decision of alina’s complete erasure.

I also can write miles of text how badly they treated the actress herself how they made jessie stay the longest on set, didn’t include most of scenes and how they made everyone shoot in a warm clothes (darkling’s death scene) in 35 degrees hot.

what drives me more mad is that mal knows whose descendant he is, why is he like this but NOTHING for alina. and I even know why, because in any case if alina’s backstory was in the book & show the ending wouldn’t fit leigh’s and eric’s narratives (alina’s terrible ending)

alina is the most powerful and the most interesting and the most unexplored character even in the books and I’m so angry they made her asian just to violently sideline her

also as I remember correct one writer was also involved in a show that erased asian character (dc titans?)

the only and only thing about the show is alina ending up a queen, surrounded by grisha and a good husband who may not be her lover but he’s protective, will always listen to her, will never whine , will help her etc (I’ll forever annoy y’all with my darkolina agenda)
