The Plattsmouth Semi-Weekly Journal, Nebraska, December 3, 1931

2 packages received in the last two days:

  • First package included what was, in essence, proselytizing material from the company (US Plastics). They are now on my Do Not Buy list, even though they had better shipping costs than Berlin Packaging.
  • Second package included a leaking fragrance oil (ordered a bunch of samples from Candle Science) mostly because the bottles were just under a layer of packing peanuts on their sides. My hand still smells of the scent, which is reminiscent of Garden Botanika’s Morning Rain. It’s very pretty and is bringing back some memories, but I’d have preferred to just smell it in the bottle, not all over me. Emailed the company to let them know. Would prefer to keep ordering from them because they’re very pro-DEI and are proactive about fragrance safety.

You actually cannot skip to being good at a creative endeavour that you haven’t put much practice into. You cannot trick your way out of the ‘knows that your work is not what you want it to be but don’t know how to improve it’ stage by planning or reading or talking about it really really hard. At some point you just have to craft through it until your brain finds it’s own unique way back to the 'everything I make slaps’ stage and be prepared to start the cycle all over again. You just have to make that project you’re excited about slightly less good than you want it to be. (Says this standing in a pool of blood and covered in blood and also coughing up a little blood)

Something something Amazon truck as the modern Wells Fargo Wagon.

A small list of random ass sites I’ve found useful when writing:

  • Fragrantica: perfume enthusiast site that has a long list of scents. v helpful when you’re writing your guilty pleasure abo fics
  • Just One Cookbook: recipe site that centers on Japanese cuisine. Lots of different recipes to browse, plenty of inspiration so you’re not just “ramen and sushi”
  • This comparing heights page: gives you a visual on height differences between characters
  • A page on the colors of bruises+healing stages: well just that. there you go. describe your bruises properly
  • McCormick Science Institute: yes this is a real thing. the site shows off research on spices and gives the history on them. be historically accurate or just indulge in mindless fascination. boost your restaurant au with it
  • A Glossary of Astronomy Terms: to pepper in that sweet terminology for your astrophysics major college au needs

Adding to this since I’m working on a shifter au one-shot:

More:

  • Cocktail Flow: a site with a variety of cocktails that’s pretty easy to navigate and offers photos of the drinks. You can sort by themes, strengths, type and base. My only real annoyance with this site is that the drinks are sometimes sorted into ~masculine~ and ~feminine~ but ehhhh. It’s great otherwise.
  • Tie-A-Tie: a site centered around ties, obviously. I stumbled upon it while researching tie fabrics but there’s a lot more to look at. It offers insight into dress code for events, tells you how to tie your ties, and has a section on the often forgotten about tie accessories

a ‘hot minute’ can be both a very short period of time, and a very long one. however, a hot minute in the past (“It’s been a hot minute since I’ve seen you!”) is most often a long duration, while a hot minute in the future (“I’ll be with you in a hot minute!”) is most often a short duration. this suggests some very strange things about the temperature of time.
