btw in my heart will goes to pratt or the new school or sva. he studies the great gay contemporary artists like haring and warhol and mapplethorpe. his true love is painting, and he’ll have a few successful exhibitions, but he does illustrations to pay the bills. he becomes very involved in the community — act up, the nyc gay men’s chorus. maybe he tattoos for a bit, he definitely paints murals. he and jonathan become even MORE of music snobs living in the city in the 90s. they will not play about boygenius in 2023. mike first goes to indiana university for english or creative writing because he’s not ready to go too far from home, it feels like abandoning el and her memory. but he hates it, finally goes to therapy, and eventually transfers somewhere on the east coast to be closer to will and nancy. he releases a series of fantasy novels inspired by their adventures, and then something more modern gothic, because’s forever Haunted. nancy obviously becomes a crazy successful investigative journalist, eventually transfering from the herald to the globe. she adamantly does not want and never has kids. she and robin move in together after robin graduates from linguistics at smith (where she also hosted a radio show on the college station) and does her masters at boston college. then robin will travel, live in france for a while, become a professor, and is obsessed with tracy chapman and the indigo girls and kd lang and lilith fair. max and lucas move to california to be closer to max’s dad, and the milder weather is better for max’s chronic pain. maybe berkeley. lucas plays basketball in college, then eventually goes to med school. after dabbling in a lot of things — just because she’s alive and she can — max becomes a pt or an ot, inspired by her own recovery. they gave a very chic long engagement and eventually get married in the late 90s (and 2 or 3 kids in the early 2000s, after lucas is done with his residency and has become a pediatric surgeon). will & mike finally act on their feelings at the wedding. holly eventually follows max to california, she becomes an actress. dustin either goes to mit or one of the ivies. probably theoretical physics, maybe engineering. eventually works for nasa. jonathan makes all sorts of art house films, but eventually becomes a successful documentarian. he and nancy work on a project together, maybe they get back together, maybe not. he campaigns for mamdani as an almost 60 year old. erica either goes to an ivy (probably the same one as dustin, they’re bonded) or howard. she studies something in stem (yet still denies being a nerd to this day), but becomes a politician afterwards — you can’t spell america without erica is obviously her campaign slogan. steve stays in hawkins, has either 4 or 5 or 6 kids (middle names after the party, probably), keeps teaching, and lives his dream of driving around the country in his winnebago, and he stops to visit his friends in their various new homes, he’ll never have to pay for a hotel in his life. joyce and hopper join long island pflag, live long and peacefully, and treat everyone’s kids as their own grandkids. bam. the end. i understand these characters better than the duffers. thank you & goodnight.

My El/Jane Hopper Headcanons (because those evil misogynist brothers refused to let her be a person):
- In Lenora, she taught herself how to knit, and so every member of the Byers family has the wonkiest scarf known to man
- Later, when she’s a much better knitter she tries to take them back but when everyone refuses she ends up sneaking into their rooms to fix them, Will wakes up to this once and thinks Vecna is back from the dead and knitting in his room
- She likes crafting in general, Joyce taught her how to sew, and she scrapbooks everything
- She gets into DnD for the figurine painting
- She likes learning but never goes back to school (Owens acquires her a diploma)
- As a young adult she doesn’t really know what she wants to do with her life and basically does every job a person can do
- She had a brief stint as the receptionist at the police station but was fired for showing favouritism (it was towards Callahan not hopper)
- Her music taste is very eclectic, she loves music that has really intense emotions and gets really into riot grrrl in the 90s
- She loves fashion but especially loves flowy hippy 70s stuff
- She loves a funky accessory, especially earrings and headbands
- She helps Jonathan with his films when’s he’s home, especially with making costumes
- She starts volunteering for costume making with the Hawkins theatre troupe and makes the party volunteer with her when they’re back in Hawkins (Dustin needs no convincing he loves this shit)

do you ever think about how in season 1 jonathan can’t knot his tie and lonnie doesn’t teach him so he shows up to will’s funeral tieless. but in season 2 will goes to the snow ball with a perfectly knotted tie. because jonathan learned how to do it for him so that he wouldn’t have to be the kid whose deadbeat dad didn’t teach him.

thinking about mike meeting will’s college friends when he comes to visit him for a long weekend or something and everyone gets along great and it goes off without a hitch. and then when mike leaves one of will’s friends is like “hey mike is super cool man. you never mentioned he was gay though?” and after spluttering incoherently for a minute he’s like “mike? no no he’s straight he dated my- well. he’s straight.” and the friend gives him a side eye that rivals lucas’s and is like ummm okay well you’d probably know better than me. it’s just that he seemed really psyched to be hanging out with a bunch of gays all night and, you know, straight guys aren’t usually like that. and will’s like “oh i mean i think that’s just mike, he’s easily excitable” but he doesn’t sound as confident this time. his friend decides this is probably not a good moment to bring up that he’d also noticed mike sneaking glances at will all night, so they let it go and it doesn’t get brought up again. will tries to brush it off, he really does. he’s been trying really hard to move on from mike, and getting his hopes up again is the last thing he needs. but god help him, there he goes again, replaying all the things mike has ever done that have made him think, maybe. so after a few weeks of thinking and pondering and, yeah, maybe hoping a little, he mentions it to mike. he tries to be casual: “hey, my friends really liked you, by the way.” he immediately wishes he hadn’t said it over the phone, because mike doesn’t respond right away and it’s nerve-wracking as hell, but after a minute mike goes “i liked them too” in a soft, contemplative voice. and that, unfortunately, does nothing to squash the hope that is rearing its all-too-familiar head in will’s chest, so he asks, “it wasn’t too much? hanging out with a bunch of artsy gay people?” and mike laughs and says “no, of course not. my best friend happens to be an artsy gay person, so.” and his voice is absolutely dripping with affection and yeah. yeah. will can see why his friends might have gotten a certain idea about mike.
they don’t talk about it more, not that day at least. they’re too far apart, and will doesn’t want to push mike too hard on something that could so easily strike a nerve. he asks robin what she thinks, and she tells him again about the snowball, about how maybe it’s worth keeping an eye out, so will does. he starts flirting again, just a little. he drops hints, mostly in the way of talking about his friends who didn’t realize they were gay until college. he promises himself that when they see each other again during the summer, he’ll figure this out once and for all, and in the meantime, he collects evidence.

I made prints of this drawing! (I don’t know if anyone is interested, but I wanted to try it)
And I also made a sticker of Will saying “grrr” because I think it’s very cute

Season 5 could have started by showing us that at some point over the timeskip, Will has started secretly seeing a boy. One of the jocks from school, actually. In public he’s just another one of the jerks on the basketball team, but in private he’s super sweet to Will.
There is conflict between the two of them because while this jock fights hard to keep up his public persona, Will has been working hard to accept his identity. Things become especiallu frought between them when the jock’s friends target and attack Dustin, and and the jock plays along to satisfy his friends and maintain appearances. Will doesn’t expect him to come out or anything, but he just wants to him to live freely as the sweet guy that Will has come to know.
Throughout the season he winds up getting swept up in the supernatural plot, and seeing Will learn to embrace himself is really inspirational for him. He promises to start living truthfully and apologizes to Dustin for the hell he put him through. Maybe he even helps out in the final battle. He’s not out publicly, but in the epilogue it’s apparent that the party knows they are together.

it’s actually hilarious that they made will move on from mike in 1 day because he needed to accept himself after his love helped build up other characters and relationships. and then mike did not move on from el for 18 months and it’s portrayed as noble suffering despite the fact that their relationship was actively harming multiple people #truelove #queerswouldnotgetit #toomuchnoah
