Best thing my grandfather ever taught me is that you’ve gotta let yourself grunt and groan when you’re doing something difficult. Makes it easier.

what-even-is-thiss

Next time you lift something heavy go gggrrraaaugggghhhh ugh hurf really loudly. If it’s hard to get up in the morning, moan and groan while you do it. When reaching for something you can’t quite get, go hhhrrraaauuugghhbadar about it.

Makes everything easier.

My grandpa has been disabled in one form or another since he was in his early 20s and he worked in construction until his 50s. He knows about doing hard things. Whenever I was helping him with moving things as a kid he always told me to grunt and groan real loud about it. Makes it easier, he said. And it does. It always, always does. Making a real loud noise and complaining about it always makes it better.

In addition to the psychological benefits, grunting also stops you from reflexively holding your breath when you strain your muscles. Hard work is easier when you breathe.

Relatedly, this is the reason that martial artists are always making "huah!" sounds.

That last part is true! The sounds have a purpose!

reblog huh until i got toward the end I thought this had the same merits as making a mean face when trying to open something i'll remember this next time thanks op's grandpa

Scientific fraud is the most baffling thing ever to me like do they think they're just going to make a huge breakthrough and no one will notice that it's fake by trying to replicate their results

pseudomantis

Yeah actually I just discovered how to turn plastic into gold. Oh you want to know how I did it

Starts running away cutely

I think part of why people don't like to call PCOS and gynecomastica intersex is because it challenges the image of intersex people being super rare. We're more common than you think.

These make me really happy to see. Like genuinely having an impact on people from me speaking out is amazing.

As an actual developmental biologist who did genetic research and is now an ob/gyn, I will always maintain that the biological sex is just a bunch of separate max and min sliders of hormones, gonads, chromosomes, parts, and signalling molecules.

A whole lot of people fit criteria to be intersex by our current understanding. Even more probably count but die before discovering it about themselves because those parts never become relevant.

Very very few things in the human body are perfect binary categories. That's part of the beauty of being human.

reblog I saw about this from a tiktok my friend sent me and it leaves me reeling got a PCOS diagnosis when I was 16. I don't even think I'd heard about intersex people back then but realizing there's more in a group than one would think makes the group more powerful imo

I cannot keep living in the world of well-sighted assholes, every time someone tells me they have glasses but never wear them I die inside and secretly promise to kill them swiftly should we ever meet in purgatory

reblog prev according to eye doctors last time I went there I was far sighted but I don't think I've been since 2020 I could always see fine without glasses so it always confused me as a kid why I needed them a core memory was taking them off as soon as I got to grandmas and going without for the weekend Idk the numbers but my vision is so clear I don't need glasses to drive but I fully respect everyone who does need glasses! Them shits are disability aids and expensive If anyone gave you shit even if I fall to your blade in purgatory I fight the war on the side of glasses wearers
