What all this adds up to is that even leaving the moral dimension of the act aside, from a purely pragmatic perspective, reblogging that callout post accusing a random trans woman you've never heard of of being a dogfucker or what-have-you is an action which, in a worst-case scenario, will contribute to ruining an innocent person's life, and in a best-case scenario, is likely to accomplish nothing whatsoever.

Folks often justify reblogging callout posts without performing due diligence under the rubric of "better safe than sorry", but any realistic assessment of the likely outcomes will tell you that the true "better safe than sorry" course of action is to keep your damn mouth shut!

"But I thought we were supposed to always believe allegations of sexual misconduct" well, the thing is, "false allegations of sexual misconduct are rare" and "false allegations of sexual misconduct disproportionately target specific visible minorities" are both true statements. There's no algorithm for being a good person – you really do have to think this shit through every single time it comes up.

This image isn't just a fleeting news item; it's part of our daily reality in Gaza. While thousands of trucks loaded with tents, blankets, food, and medicine are held outside the Strip, prevented from entering by the Israeli occupation, we face a humanitarian catastrophe that worsens day by day. We die here every moment. We suffer constantly, and everyone ignores what we're going through.

I was injured more than 600 days ago. Shrapnel from the bombing of our house, while we were inside, is still embedded in my body. I'm still injured and unable to receive proper treatment because of the siege and the lack of medical supplies. The pain is constant, but what's worse than the pain is the feeling that we're forgotten and that everyone is ignoring what we're going through. We constantly ask for help, and everyone ignores us.

My family and I are very ill now due to the winter storm that began yesterday in Gaza. Because of this winter, we haven't been able to recover due to the lack of medicine and shelter from these recurring storms. Our tent is torn and leaking rainwater and cold air. Worse still, all our blankets and pillows are soaked. We urgently need to buy medicine and treatments, but they are very expensive because the occupation prevents the entry of medicine into Gaza. learning a new instrument from a single teacher is so funny bc that's your point of reference for a while until you start branching out a little. was talking to a specialist in irish music history about my early irish harp lessons and i was like "it's a good thing i have strong fingernails so i don't have to get acrylics to play" and he was like "you're playing with your fingernails?" and i was like "yeah my teacher said that's how you play" and he was like "that's how irish harp players used to play like 1,000 years ago. i don't know anyone who plays with their fingernails now. even in the 1700s at a harp festival we have record of just one guy playing with his fingernails."

i guess he can't say no one is playing like this anymore bc at least my teacher is but this is why when ur new to something u can't walk around assuming you have all the facts. thought i was learning harp like usual meanwhile my teacher is an extremely dedicated medieval reenactor.

Most 'out of left field' way to discover someone is a vampire

It seems we are staring this new year the same we did last. With a Black trans man found dead in New York. And like last time, no one on social media is talking about it, because we don't talk about dead trans men.

Danny Siplin was 33-years-old, he was a community builder, a dedicated son that drove his mother to work every morning, and he loved the snow.

He was found dead near his car on a bridge in Rochester. Police have alleged there was no foul play involved in his death, but details of his death have not been released to the public. The media reporting his death misgendered him on TV and in articles. He was described by his mother as someone who "give the shirt off [his] back,".

Sam Nordquist's body was found almost a year ago, also in New York, also after he had gone missing. Sam Nordquist was de-gendered by the New York Times, which initially had correctly referred to him as a trans man before changing the language to "person". Sam, a 24-year-old Black trans man, had been tortured and raped for three months before he was killed and his buddy dumped and dedicated. The media also failed him, not just by misgendered and de-gendering him but also by using photos of him pre-transition. Something that his Wikipedia page has also done.

He was described by his mother as someone who "give the shirt off his back,".

It has also been almost two years since the murder of TK Hill, a 35-year-old Black publicly transgender man, who was shot and killed in front of his home at the start of 2024. TK had been a community organizer and an LGBT salon owner. TK Hill was also described as someone who would "give the shirt off his back,".

As I mourn the death of Danny Siplin, I am still mourning the death of Sam Nordquist and TK Hill. I mourn the deaths of all trans men whose names go unspoken, whose names go erased, who have been defined as people who give and give and give - even when they had very little and faced such great and terrible adversity.
