WordPress Studio for local PC error “failed to start site server”

  • Unknown's avatar

Which version of WordPress Studio should I download on my PC: Windows on Intel/AMD or Windows on ARM ? My PC has a Core 2 Duo processor. I clicked on Windows on Intel/AMD, downloaded it, and installed it. There were no errors during installation. However, when I clicked on “Add Site” and entered the site name, I got a message saying “Site created successfully.” But when I clicked on “WP Admin,” an error appeared: “Failed to start server.” What should I do? this happens again and again . .Also, please let me know why the speed of WordPress Studio is extremely slow. I have attached the screenshots.

  • Hello there,

I understand you’re having trouble launching a site on Studio for Windows.

For your configuration, you did the right thing by downloading the Intel/AMD version.

If site creation feels slow or fails with an error, please try this:

    1. Click the three horizontal lines in the top-left corner.
    2. Go to Help → Want to speed up site creation?
    3. Click Do it for me.

This will automatically add a Windows Defender exclusion for Studio. When Real-Time Protection is enabled, it can slow down or block the site creation process – especially when Studio runs PHP files for WordPress – so applying this exclusion could resolve the issue.

Please try that and let us know if the problem persists.

  • Hi again!

Thanks for your sharing more screenshots and patience while we troubleshoot this issue.

A few things to try next in this situation:

    1. Disable VPN / test another network
If you’re using a VPN, please try disabling it and restarting Studio.
If possible, also test on a different network (for example, a mobile hotspot) to rule out network or proxy restrictions.
    2. Change the local install path
When creating the site, try installing it in a simple local folder, for example:
      C:studio-sitesMyEliteWebsite
    3. Close other local server tools
If you have any tools that run local web servers or reserve ports, try closing them completely and then retry:
      • Docker / Docker Desktop
      • XAMPP, WAMP, MAMP
      • LocalWP
    4. Temporarily disable security / antivirus software
Some antivirus or Windows security features can block Studio from starting its local server.
As a test, temporarily disable antivirus or controlled folder access, then try creating the site again.

Dirst thing is that i am not using any VPN.

Second thing is i have installed on its default location;m path location is C:UsersAdministratorAppDataLocalstudioStudio.exe

i have also moved studio folder to other drive

third thing is that i have no other local tools like xamp etc

fourth thins is that i have disable Eset antivirus efven windows defender also.

    but same problem existl

    what shouls i do

  • Hi @zaighamabbbas,

Thanks for confirming all of that, it helps narrow things down.

Since VPNs, antivirus, other local tools, and the install location have all been ruled out, the next best step is to try a clean reinstall of WordPress Studio.

    Please try this:

    1. Uninstall WordPress Studio completely.
    2. Restart your computer.
    3. Download a fresh copy of the installer.
    4. Reinstall it using the default options and do not move the Studio folder afterward.
    5. Create a new site with a very simple name, then try opening WP Admin.

If the issue still happens after a clean reinstall, please let us know. At that point we can look more closely at what is preventing the local server from starting.

i have unistalled and reinstall wordpress studio same problem exist. What should i do?

  • Hi @zaighamabbbas,

Just to clarify, is the fresh install being done on your new PC (Lenovo i5) or the prior PC with the Intel Core 2 Duo processor?

On your Lenovo, could you please ensure you’re updated to the latest version of Windows?

Clearing App Data for Studio: Since previous attempts failed, there may be some leftover files from prior installation.

    1. Close WordPress Studio.
    2. Press Windows Key + R, type %AppData%, and press Enter.
    3. Look for a folder named Studio.
    4. Delete that folder.
    5. Restart Studio.
