Alfa-Romeo 156The model is a mid-size sports car. The vehicle assembly was carried out from 1997 to 2007 in Pomigliano d'Arco, Italy, as well as at the General Motor facility in Rayong, Thailand. About 680 000 Alfa-Romeo 156 copies came off the assembly line in total.
Alfa-Romeo 156 I generationPresentation of the Alfa-Romeo 156 production model was held in Frankfurt in 1997. The vehicle was designed on the Fiat Tipo platform. The development of car design was led by Walter de Silva. At first the car was produced exclusively in sedan body, but since 2000 estate came into the market.
Th car interior was distinct in strongly marked sportiness. Instruments were placed in deep narrow niches on the front panel. Front seats with improved lateral support were equipped with adjustable headrests. The backseat was designed for two seats, each of which was equipped with seat belts.
In their standard configuration Alfa-Romeo 156 cars were equipped with proprietary anti-theft system Alfa Code, body-colored bumpers, climate control, central locking, alarm, sunroof, adjustable steering column, and a headlamp alignment system. Safety was provided by the anti-lock brake system (ABS), brake force distribution (EBD) and airbags.
As additional options the company offered leather trim, a spoiler, sport low-profile tires and alloy wheels 16 inches in diameter. In the Nordic countries headlight washers, front fog lamps and seat heating system could be purchased.
Alfa-Romeo 156 I generation restylingIn 2002, the car received an improved interior trim with lots of chrome elements. the number of available for customers color schemes of interior finish was increased. For increased safety, the car received the anti-lock motor braking system (MSR), traction control (ASR), and the stability control system (VDC).
Manufacturer included on-board computer with a multi-function screen, window airbags, and dual-zone climate control in the standard equipment. As an option, there was an opportunity to install a navigator, xenon lights and audio system with controls located on the steering wheel.
In 2003, the car underwent significant exterior changes. Giorgetto Giugiaro from ItalDesign company has developed a completely new style for Alfa-Romeo 156. The car got an updated design of the front and rear bumpers, a sporty kit Turismo Internazionale, reinforced suspension, wheels with a diameter of 17 inches and a new leather interior.
