Employers nationwide working with local communities and policymakers to invest in the skills of America's workers.
About us
Business Leaders United for Workforce Partnerships is an initiative of National Skills Coalition (national, nonpartisan 501c3). We are a free, private network comprised of employers from a range of industry sectors across the nation who are concerned that America’s workforce does not have adequate access to skills training. They are working with local partners to train and hire community residents for skilled jobs and want our country’s policymakers to follow suit and invest - aggressively and effectively - in the skills of America’s workers. Business Leaders United promotes inclusive, high-quality skills training policies that help build the workforce that businesses need to grow and thrive. Business Leaders United is advised by an Executive Committee of business leaders dedicated to solving the nation’s skills mismatch by advocating for proven education and training policies.

What do small and mid-size businesses really think about skills training and credentials? This new BLU report draws on interviews with 75 employers — and reveals a mixed story. Many are embracing skills-based hiring and recognize the value of non-degree credentials. But many also say the system isn’t yet delivering what workers need: training often doesn’t connect to real job skills, and credential quality varies. If we want the workforce of tomorrow to meet employer needs and give workers stable, good jobs — we need smarter policy: better alignment between training programs and employer demand, clearer credential standards, and stronger partnerships between businesses, training providers, and policymakers.
