Justice for Kendrick Gray: Overturn a Wrongful Conviction
My name is Kendrick Gray, and I am pleading for your support to overturn the injustice that has kept me incarcerated for over 15 years for a crime I did not commit.
On February 9, 2008, a robbery occurred at a Dairy Queen in Mobile, Alabama. Two suspects, Jajuan Holmes and Timothy Hall Jr. (the son of a Mobile County judge), were apprehended shortly after the crime. Police alleged a third person fled on foot. Nearly a month later, on March 5, 2008, police arrested me at my job in Grand Bay, Alabama, claiming I was the third suspect.
This arrest was made without any evidence:
• No photo line-up.
• No video surveillance.
• No eyewitness testimony.
• No physical evidence connecting me to the crime.
Despite this, I was held in Mobile County Jail for over 2.5 years before going to trial. My first court-appointed attorney, Ashley Cameron, reviewed the case and confirmed there was nothing tying me to the robbery. After she left the case, my next attorney, Deborah McGowan, filed motions to dismiss the case on multiple grounds, including my warrantless arrest. These motions were denied, and I was forced to stand trial.
At trial:
• Eight witnesses testified that they had never seen me before and did not know me.
• My alleged accuser, Tawanza Witherspoon, did not appear in court, violating my right to face my accuser.
• The prosecution used statements from the two suspects to implicate me, even though there was no evidence of my involvement.
Despite this, I was convicted and sentenced to 99 years in prison.
Meanwhile, Timothy Hall Jr., who accused me years after his arrest, has since committed multiple robberies and a capital murder. For these crimes, he was allowed to plead guilty and received a lighter sentence—28 years, served concurrently with a 20-year probation sentence.
I have now served over 15 years for a crime I did not commit, on top of 13 years I previously served in federal prison. The injustice is overwhelming, but I continue to fight for my freedom.
This is not justice. I am asking for your support to bring attention to my case and demand that the system right this wrong. No one should spend decades in prison based on no evidence.
Please sign and share this petition to demand justice, accountability, and the restoration of my freedom. Together, we can expose this injustice and create change.
Thank you for your compassion and support.
Peace, love, and blessings,
Kendrick Gray
