Don’t look now, but Leonardo DiCaprio season is once again upon us, and we’re not talking about his yachting escapades. This past weekend, One Battle After Another—which marks the actor’s first collaboration with director Paul Thomas Anderson—hit theaters. The film tasks the 50-year-old actor with one of his battier roles: Bob Ferguson, an ex-revolutionary who is struggling to adjust to daily life.
“It’s a nice character, someone who starts out wanting to change the world on the far left but gets increasingly cranky and closed off as he gets older,” Anderson told DiCaprio of the character in Esquire’s latest cover story. Well, DiCaprio’s performance, if you had any doubt, has already made him a shoo-in for his eighth Academy Award nomination. The actor has taken home the trophy only for his tussle with Cocaine Bear’s great-great-great-grandfather in The Revenant, so he may very well be due for another win.
In the meantime? Well, since DiCaprio doesn’t appear on the big screen every day (or even every year!), One Battle After Another is an occasion to rank all of his movies, from worst to best. Cue the Jay Gatsby cheers! GIF.
