FA finally has folders...thus this account is redundant
General | Posted 10 years agoThe only reason I originally created this account is that I didn't want my furry-irrelevant photos flooding my main gallery at
shiryayev
Now that folders exist, I will start posting photos there instead. I will ensure to re-friend all the people I was watching onthis account.

Anthrocon Retrospective
General | Posted 11 years agoAnthrocon exceeded all my expectations. Being the second furry con I have attended (if you can count the tiny, first-year Arizona Fur Con), I really did not know what to expect. Is all the travel and cost of going cross country worth it?
I think AC offered exactly what I wanted – I got to meet the artists, writers, and musicians I have only heard of online, and buy some cool autographed loot!
The size of AC is really advantageous, giving me more than enough to do, even though I wasn’t looking to hang out with any particular people. It was particularly cool to see how many other analog photographers are in the fandom! It was great to meet
velantian and
tech_base in person. Also, I heard several fursuiters express shock or confusion as they saw my Polaroid camera as they walked by in the fursuit parade.
The best part for sure is just the culture of downtown Pittsburgh. Even compared to the much larger comic cons I have attended, AC in Pittsburgh is on a whole different level. The whole city goes all out to entertain and spectate the con. The hospitality was amazing, and it really helps to build up the illusion of actually being a whole furry city for 2-3 fantastic days.
Finally,
Rexraccoon and
demuto were gracious hosts, and I am glad they let me share their room (and bed (lol)) despite being much more experienced con-goers.
What is next for me? Well for now I need to focus on completing my Master’s, so don’t expect any other con appearances until next year’s Phoenix Comicon. In any case, I will absolutely consider attending any future Anthrocons whenever possible!

ANTHROCON ***Its happening.gif***
General | Posted 11 years agoThat is right! I will be at AC next week!
Flying in super early Friday Morning
Most excited about Kyell Gold's new book and Fox Amoore's new album.
...and meeting all of you, of course!
Gonna be in the Hampton Inn
I know plenty of you photograFURs will be out in full force!
Including myself, as I will be bringing my entire stock of fp100c and some fp3000b instant film.
If I am distracted, the best way to get my attention is to wave any sort of ridiculously large, old, or famous camera in my face.
You will recognize me by my own ridiculously large/old/etc camera(s) http://www.furaffinity.net/full/12365929/
And my Coyote tail which lights up blue/teal at the raves!
See ya there!

Phoenix Comicon!
General | Posted 11 years agoI feel bad not updating this for so long... Expect a life update next week, but for now just letting everyone know that I will be at Phoenix Comicon all day Saturday and Sunday. I will be hefting along the Polaroid 600SE for most of the event, so come and bother me if you want a free photo!
Really excited to see what the event is like, as this is my 5th consecutive year and they are actually approaching the maximum capacity at the convention center!
until next time,
Shear

Prakticaaaaa Cameraaa
General | Posted 12 years agoPicked up a new, odd camera today, the Praktica MTL3, made in the German Democratic Republic (That's East Germany to you, capitalist pigs!).
Its an odd SLR... the shutter button is on the front and not the top. It also has the least stealthy shutter and wind noise ever.
But the craziest thing about it is that the light meter is powered by a PX13 mercury battery. And... the battery in this one is still good! 100% accurate compared to my other cameras. The magic of mercury!
PS if you want to see the trippy, bizarre commercial for this camera, look here: http://youtu.be/ow4GAMUFHVE

Random musing on furries and camera ergonomics
General | Posted 12 years agoThe main reason I am a furry is because I have a very active imagination. Yet I still keep a rational engineer's mindset even when I think of furry things. So anyways, I just had a random "if furries were real" musing: Most furs, particularly with large muzzles, could never use a camera viewfinder in landscape mode! Their muzzle would obviously get in the way unless the camera was held in portrait mode, like in my profile picture. http://www.furaffinity.net/view/12124429/
Best solution? Put the viewfinder on the bottom of the camera, so the camera sits above the muzzle. This could easily be engineered, even with an SLR (the pentaprism would obviously sit on the bottom of the camera). Or maybe more film cameras would have a ground glass focusing screen like the old TLR cameras so it would not have to be brought up to the face.
In any case, its too late at night now to muse further, but please add your thoughts below!

New Year, New Cameras, More fun!
General | Posted 12 years agoHello! As you have seen from my recent posts, I have 4 new cameras to have fun with this year. :)
So in general, the future looks good for film and my involvement in photography. I have not written a journal here in a while, so here are some thoughts on what I would like to do this year:
I have also been thinking about other ways I can use this account other than just posting pictures. I would like to post content which could help out other photographers who are thinking about using film.
-For example, I want to write about the different types of film I have used and which ones I like the best/worst in certain situations.
-Also, good starter cameras that can be found cheap.
-Finally, my methods for scanning the film so that you all can enjoy it here. I received a new film scanner (Epson V550) for Christmas, so I want to publish tips and tricks about it, and maybe a review at some point!
That's about it. Here's to a fun and productive 2014!

Arizona Fur Con! I'll be there! Get a free Polaroid!
General | Posted 12 years agoYep, my first fur con and the first year of this con! Should be a blast! What has really prevented me from going to cons in the past is my insane school schedule and/or internships. In any case, I just found out that this brand new local con is at the same time as ASU's fall break!
So i set myself up with a Saturday membership. I suspect that many of my watchers, other than
rexraccoon and
demuto are not in AZ and thus are not going, but it would be really awesome to run into other cool people too.
I am planning to bring my polaroid camera: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/11744189/
So just look for the guy lugging around this huge camera. I will be happy to take a photo of you in your fursuit...and I will even let you keep the polaroid! (Disclaimer: I can only feasibly carry 4 packs of film (40 photos) so it will be first come first served!)
Anyways, see you there!

Update
General | Posted 12 years agoHey guys, I have been quite busy with school so I have not had much time to shoot some more photos. Rest assured I will post anything interesting as it gets processed and scanned!
In other news, I got my first photography "gig". I was asked to take PR photos for a startup company that is being curated at ASU. The group knew to ask me first because it is partially based out of the engineering school, so they saw me walking around with cameras all the time and thought to ask me first! I had to use a Canon DSLR rented from the university for the shoot. Having never shot with a DSLR, I can say that I was pretty disappointed with the camera (but to be fair, I think it was a fairly low end model). The lens was very plastic and the viewfinder was small and hard to use. The fun part was that I flipped the mode dial to manual and aperture priority and shot the whole thing without program mode and with manual focus (and setting the sensor's ISO myself too). In any case, they really liked the photos and I had a fun time.
Cool, that's pretty much all the new stuff going on.

Brace Yourselves!
General | Posted 12 years agoTons of cool photos incoming! I shot 5 rolls worth of awesome stuff and just got it all developed. I will start posting them as soon as I get back to Flagstaff in a few hours. I think I will upload one per day just to keep it spaced out.
First journal, summer update.
General | Posted 12 years agoI would like to thank all of you, the followers and those who fave'd my photos. I take photos for my own enjoyment-to relax from my stressful job and school. However, I am pleasantly surprised that you guys are enjoying them too.
Emotions n' stuff aside, here is what I am planning for you guys throughout the rest of the summer:
"Moar" night photography: I am in Flagstaff this summer for an internship, so I am currently exploring cool things to take long exposure night photos of. (trains? caves? you will have to wait and see).
Other Formats: I have some 120 film (4x larger than 35mm!) that I just need scan in next time I go back home to Mesa
Camera profiles: Giving my two cents on the cameras I own, their quirks, and if I would recommend them to others.
Cons?: I may go to the Arizona Fur Con this October, it just depends on my schedule. If I DO go, I am planning something very special in terms of camera equipment to bring ;)
