What started your interest in horses? My best friend had riding lessons, and one day she asked me to come along. I was hooked.
How long have you been riding? 17 years ... 17 years??!! Bloody hell.
Do/did you take lessons? I did, but I don't at the moment.
Can you remember the first horse you rode? A little Shetland called Biscuit.
What's the smallest horse you've ridden? I dunno, probably the Shetland mentioned above!
And the biggest? Duke, who was 19hh.
How many times have you fallen off? Way too many to remember.
What's the worst fall you've had? My horse tripped and somersaulted with me at canter during a ridden class at The Shire Horse Show. I busted my ribcage.
What about the funniest/most embaressing? Oh gosh - I was cantering with a friend when Pepsi bucked and I landed in front of the saddle. Then she stopped to eat, and I couldn't get her head back up and couldn't push myself back into the saddle. So I decided to slide down her neck - only I got tangled in the reins and after getting stuck half-way down I sort of flopped onto the ground underneath her.
Have you ever broken a bone because of horses? Only my finger - when I fell off Smokey at the Shire Show, I ruptured the cartlidge in my ribs and breastbone but didn't break anything!
Have you ever shown - and if so, in what classes? Yehhh. Uh ... Lead-Rein (back in the day), Condition and Turnout, Ridden Heavy Horse, In-Hand, In-Hand Harness and Novice Driver.
What's your favourite show memory? All of 'em!
Have you ever won a class? Which one(s)? Yeh, In-Hand Harness.
Have you ever won a championship? Nope.
Have you ever come last in a class? Not quite. :P
Have you ever had a groom, or have you acted as groom yourself? I worked as a groom for 4 years, and now do so at weekends occasionally.

Do you know anything about them before they came to you? Everything; she was abandoned as a foal and later abused and on her way to the knackerman before we saved her.
Do they have any vices or bad habits? Pepsi IS a bad habit.
Are they novice rides or not? No, not really.
What kind of things do you do with them? Well she's retired now, but I take her for walks to keep things interesting for her.
Have they had/do they have any illnesses? Gosh yes. She had a severe bout of laminitis a couple of years ago, was diagnosed with Cushing's Disease, and then came down with a skin complaint which has seen her on 36 pills a day for life to keep it under control.
Are they insured? Yep.
Have they ever been involved in an accident? Just the car one I mentioned earlier.
Are they shod? Only on her front feet.
What do you feed them? Safe & Sound mix, pony nuts, Stroppy Mare herbal mix, echinacea, garlic, Mobility herbal mix.
What are their personalitys like? Utterly fantastic. She's a devious little madam which is why I love her so.
What's your favourite thing about them? Everything!
How much did they cost? £100. :)
Do you intend to keep them for the rest of their lives? Oh yes.

Were they sold? If not, what happened? Lacey (loan) was sold; Argyll (loan) was given to someone else as we couldn't afford his shoeing costs (his pedal bones were insane); Beatrice (loan) we only have over the winter and Josh (own) had to be put to sleep.

Age? I have no idea how old Lacey would be now; Argyll is in his teens, Beatrice is 12 and Josh was 12.

Sponsored walk in memorium of Xeno834
General | Posted 16 years agoOn Sunday the 14th June, 2009, my dearest friend Xeno834 - known as Richard to his offline friends, hehe - passed away after a 5 year battle with cancer. He was a truly unique and wonderful individual, and despite being diagnosed so young he remained upbeat, selfless as always and fought with a courage deserving of heroes. It would have been so easy for him to give in or complain, but never once did he loose his optimism or wacky sense of humour. To say we could all learn something from him is the understatement of the century.
He was a keen photographer, mostly self taught as a hobby he picked up during his treatment, and you can still check out his work over in his DA gallery. It was from him that I caught the photography bug, and it was he who taught me as much as he could. His family have kept his website open, http://www.shineonproductions.co.uk , and you will soon be able to order prints of his work from it; all money raised will go the the Teenage Cancer Trust, a charity Richard wholeheartedly supported.
The TCT hope to raise £1,000,000 in order to open a much needed teenage cancer unit at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge, and as part of that campaign I will be doing my own small part by doing a sponsered walk with my pony, Pepsi.
At the age of 24, Pepsi, a rescue case, is unable to be ridden hence why this will be a sponsered walk and not a sponsered ride! We will be covering a round circuit of approx 11/12 miles on the 6th September. If you would like to donate money to the cause, please do; I have yet to sort something out for online or overseas sponsers (Richard had many friends around the world), but will jump to it as soon as the need arises. Just leave me a comment/note and I'll get back to.
Thank you in advance; and if you don't have cash to spare, which in this current climate I can totally understand, at least give a few minutes out of your day to visit his DA gallery or his own website. Richard was an exceptionally talented young man and his work should not gather dust. He will be sorely missed.

He was a keen photographer, mostly self taught as a hobby he picked up during his treatment, and you can still check out his work over in his DA gallery. It was from him that I caught the photography bug, and it was he who taught me as much as he could. His family have kept his website open, http://www.shineonproductions.co.uk , and you will soon be able to order prints of his work from it; all money raised will go the the Teenage Cancer Trust, a charity Richard wholeheartedly supported.
The TCT hope to raise £1,000,000 in order to open a much needed teenage cancer unit at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge, and as part of that campaign I will be doing my own small part by doing a sponsered walk with my pony, Pepsi.
At the age of 24, Pepsi, a rescue case, is unable to be ridden hence why this will be a sponsered walk and not a sponsered ride! We will be covering a round circuit of approx 11/12 miles on the 6th September. If you would like to donate money to the cause, please do; I have yet to sort something out for online or overseas sponsers (Richard had many friends around the world), but will jump to it as soon as the need arises. Just leave me a comment/note and I'll get back to.

Does your music need to reflect your morals?

I am a massive fan of Cradle of Filth. I first heard them 7 years ago, and have been addicted to them ever since; I could even go so far as to call myself their number one fan. I have even continued to love them despite their recent controversy in the metal world for "selling out" (a pointless term, and something I wish so called music lovers wouldn't brand musicians with. I say fair play to those who manage to make money out of the business - they work for it, after all), and their change in musical direction (bands change, music mutates. When a band's been around for over a decade, it's only natural).
On the other end of the scale as far as my passions go is PETA: who I am 100% against. I consider them an abominable organisation who spread nothing but ignorance and terrorism. I am in favour of animal welfare: animal rights is something completely different. Unfortunately, very few people seem to understand this and are blinded by thoughts of saving cute and fluffy animals; a just cause, but one that could be undertaken with a far more logical and competent approach.
As we all know, PETA is very good as signing up celebrities (call me cynical, but I'm pretty sure a lot of them are there because it seems like a good thing for publicity. The majority do not have any in-depth background knowledge of the causes they're supporting).
I received a message the other day saying that Cradle of Filth were running a competition, so naturally I followed the link: only to find, to my abject horror, that it was run in conjunction with PETA.
So now I am at a conundrum: I love Cradle, loathe PETA, and am sorely disappointed to find that my heroes are blind enough to believe the latter's propaganda. I know this sounds a bit mad to be bothered by, but I don't think I can get across to you quite how anti-PETA I am. I suppose it would be the same if a PETA supporter discovered that their favourite group advocated fur, eating meat, dog-fighting and so on and so forth.
So my question is: does it matter to you if the bands you listen to have opinions and beliefs that are the polar opposite to yours?
This may just be a metal thing; I personally can't imagine getting that involved in the life of a pop group, but then that's my opinion. Metal is way of life to me, and the talentless crap they play on Radio 1 will never be able to evoke the same emotions in me.
At the end of the day, I'm not going to stop listening to Cradle just because they have some silly opinions. XD But I am curious as to what people think.

General | Posted 17 years agoSo here I was, happily browsing FA, minding my own buisness ... when all of a sudden, one of my Breyer model horses launches itself off the shelf above me (and yes, launches really is the perfect word here) and lands on the floor about three feet away. O_O
So all right, things fall off shelves all the time. Just because it's been stood there for months doesn't mean it won't eventually slip and fall.
But the thing is, where it's positioned, is if it had really just toppled off ... it would have knocked several CDs, empty drinks bottles and piles of books over on its way down.
Instead of falling straight down, it more or less leapt across my bedroom. :|
Halp! I'm scared!

General | Posted 17 years agoSo on Sunday night I went to see my favourite band, Cradle of Filth, do a warm-up gig in Northampton ... then the next day, I travelled down to London to see them again along with Gorgoroth, Moonspell and Septic Flesh! Hurrah! It was an epic two days. I love that band so much. :P And it was great to see Gorgoroth, finally - I've seen Cradle 6 times now, but this was the first time I've seen Gorgoroth. Gaahl is a scary, scary man. :)
Caught a drum stick at the warm-up gig! Whoop whoop!
I did have to queue for 2 and a half hours on Monday in sub-zero temperatures, though, but it was all worth it.
Had to get the last train home, which meant we got in at 2am (and yes, I was up at 7am for work...); very surreal night, as I ended up debating animal rights with a blind man. And then I got in a taxi with an elderly couple who said they'd been to the Slipknot gig. Whut. *shrug*
And tomorrow, I'm back in London again for the Finnish Fire tour - Korpiklaani, Battlelore, Falchion and hopefully (fingers crossed) Kivimetsän Druidi. :3 I love me some metal! <3 Raaaaaa.

Anyway, it's the weekend!! I'm meeting up with some mates of mine tomorrow, having tea, crumpets and rum in town (what a great mix), and then I'm going to see a gig in my local pub. Help! Fursona name.

I discovered therianthropy some years back and knew then that I was a short-haired, white housecat; and when I eventually immersed myself in the furry fandom, that cat became my furry self. But I never really named her, I just referred to her as Sairey or Sari-cat (and my RL name is Sari).
When I joined FA earlier this year, I used the name Lady Epona because that's what I go by on DA (which I've been a member of since 2003. Lady E is a really, really old screen-name of mine. I went by that name back in the days of Side 7, and that really was years ago!).
But the thing is, I've finally chosen a fursona name, and I don't know whether it's worth closing this gallery and starting up a new one under the new name. I bet the majority of us don't know the real names of the artists on here, even the famous ones, but you all recognise their screen-names. As I'd be attending conventions under this new name, I'd prefer people to associate it with me and my work.
So basically what I'm asking for advice on is: do you think it's important to have your online gallerys under the same name as you go by in the fandom/at conventions? Do you think I need to change to get rid of the Lady Epona tag?
In other news, I am 7,149 words into my NaNoWriMo entry for this year. That's 5,433 words yesterday and 1,726 words today. Hurraaaaah! Check me out. XD

Bizarre Ball and adventures with the Shires
General | Posted 17 years agoHm, update! So last Friday (10th October), Bizarre magazine hosted the Bizarre Ball in London. It was brilliant. :3 I wore my red and black tutu, red and black corset, red stockings, black Demonia Torment boots, collar, lead and my gorgeous, gorgeous carnival mask. I also brought along the Marquis, my 'imaginary' friend ... I'm slowly working on some arts of him, so you may see him around at some point. :P A good friend of mine played the role of Mistress for the night. I now have a new fondness for horse-hair whips, baha! The photographer pounced on us within the first 5 minutes of our entrance, so if our picture appears in the magazine and I don't look like too much of an idiot (I hate being put on the spot like that), I'll share the photo.
I saw a couple of fursuiters there, hah! Poke me if you were one of them. :P
Then on the Saturday, I went up to the yard to help out with the Shires ... although I spent most of the time riding! I rode Macey, Beatrice and the new horse, Tudor - who until about 3 weeks ago was an unbroken stallion. Now he is neither, bless him. He's absoloutly gorgeous though. He's been bought for someone in Germany, so look out for him at Darmstadt or somewhere, hahaha!
On the Sunday it was the show, photos of which I've already posted. And if you've looked at the photos and read the descriptions, you'll already know how it went. XD
So yeh: brilliant weekend, in summary!
