So there were 2 takes I really liked and I picked this one....the other one is on my sound cloud.
This is another collaboration between me and some friends of mine.
Keyboards: D.Watson
Bass: T.Andrews
ianmj91 on Drums,Synth layering,Mixing and fingersnaps lol
The drums are supposed to be "behind"/Sloppy on purpose for stylistic reasons of being inspired by J Dilla and Robert Glasper.
The plan was to flip flop between 2 time signatures I wanted to add more signatures in but the rest of the guys couldn't really count :/

When I was in my band's wind ensemble we had a piece in mostly 9/8 and it was hella fun lol
I can tell a time signature by listening to it if it repeats a multitulde of times unless it's like Don Ellis's Bulgerian Bulge (33/16) or Frank Zappa's "Black Page" then I'll get headaches lol
I have a few favorite songs in 13/8 too :)
Well a lot of people will notice it's not in a normal time because the time signature will feel like it's a skipping CD lol.

I stopped taking music in grade 9, but, 13/8 seems soooooo odd. When I atopped we only covered 3/4, 5/4 and 7/8. I guess you could have time signatures of any multiples of 4, I just never really thought about it before. Which wind instruements can you play? I've only got trombone (Everyone used to make the joke "you blow the boner") and flute under my belt. I'm getting a flute soon enough, hopefully. Asking for one for christmas :)
It's all in combinations of 2 and 3 really
for 9 we counted
1-2-1-2-1-2-1-2-3 to get 9 in total. or for 7 it would be 1-2-1-2-1-2-3 :3 it's pretty fun especially when you move the groups around to get a different flow within the 8th note pulse.
I'm working in another song in 12/4 that goes into 11/8 in the verse section but I don't think I'll release it anytime soon.
I don't play any wind instruments I wish I knew how to play trumpet but I've been playing drums since I was 4 so my parents made me stick with percussion.
I do tinker with Piano (hence my interest in synth sounds and layering) and I play a little bit of bass guitar but drums/percussion are main instrument.

I tried teaching myself piano... 5 or 6 years ago? It's been a while, but, I remember really enjoying it. I don't have any sort of natural knack for music, other than just having good ears in general. I'm also a little lazy, so I lack the stick-to-it-ivness to get good at an instrument. I'm really envious of people who can get good at them though, because it's one dang neat talent.
I also really like the sound of bass in general, so that's something that's really cool. I've never known where to go for good music bass-wise, got anything for me? (I mean, there's Rush, but other than that I don't know where to turn)

I'm actually a fan of Rush for the songwriting and musicianship but when I hear people say "Neil Peart is the greatest drummer ever" I cringe because I can think of 5 drummers easily that can play circles around him IN his era and after his era (Check Billy Cobham from Mahavishnu Orchestra as an example). ANYWHO I digress if you wanna check out some great bass players....
