Here is a flat colour commission I did for
lisky of his character meeting
ziblie's
Apparently their personalities are such that, were they ever to meet, they would either be total bros, or do their best to kill each other. I opted for the latter!
It's humans, I know, but I like it, and am hoping to do more flat colour stuff soon! :D
Lemme know what you guys think!

Ahaa so I was right on the money without realizing it! Wow. That is great, your learning from that really shines through. I can honestly see this scene being played out in a theater. I think that is a really neat style to see as a commissioner, it brings the characters to life in a fun way.
Yeah, I was trained in 2D. My year was very early on after our program switched to a degree program, so we ended up as sort of a guinea pig year, and our digital education really suffered for it. Lots of teachers juggled into the position who shouldn't have been there. I really need to find the time and money to learn the software and make myself that much more employable (or employable at all XD )
Glad you're impressed though! :)

I understand if you need a classroom environment to pick up the software, but it is possible to learn the software by hitting various online tutorials. I had to pick this stuff up on the job a few years ago so you can do it with self study, but these days you have to watch a lot of youtubes to get the intricacies of tasks such as skin weighting and making skeleton rigs. Let me know what you need and I can advise and provisde respources, I an fluent in 3ds Max and Maya, mostly current. XD.
What sort of job are you looking for?

Well not a lot of help I can give you in 2D, as my 2D past was mostly university. However, you can do and practice animation with freely available characters for testing, so you can practice the movement, and timing. Note me for Details if you'd like, But it can be done, fairly easily. Hope this helps.
As for 2D games animation, learn Flash, and research the 2D game engines out there. There are a LOT of 2D phone and tablet game companies set around San Francisco, and a few in Las Vegas and a couple in Boston, and I hear that with the demise of a couple of 2D studios on Vancouver B.C. that there are rumors of a studio for cel phone games starting up there now. But Flash is where it's at, for the moment, but they also seem to use Animo on occasion as well.

Reminds me very much of a dreamwork animated movie. I reallllllly want to be able to draw like this one day. I just need to sit down and just practice shapes and basics....I think I'm too far into my own way that I need to go back to square one lol. Really, seeing this really made me set myself a new goal! :DD I'm inspired! If you have any tips, I'm totally willing to be critiqued! :DD I really love how there is no shading, BUT the presence of just the lighting makes it look shadowed! :DD (That and the colors you used.)
:D I'm really glad to be inspiring someone!
Really the best thing I can suggest is study. Study mostly from life! Learn anatomy, and how to think in three dimensions. As you're doing that, study artists you admire. Cross reference what you like about their stuff with what you're learning from drawing from life, and try to figure out why they're doing what they're doing. A lot of times you won't be able to emulate something you like in someone else's style until you figure out what made them do it. But study many artists, rather than just a couple, to make sure your style stays yours. Otherwise, just draw what you love, and do as often as you can.
I don't feel qualified to give any tips on colour just yet, I'm honestly just learning about them myself. Just try to understand something new about colour with every piece you do. Consider the environment and the quality and source of the light, when you're picking your colours. It'll take research!
Hope that helps, some.
Best of luck! :D

Yes it helps a loooot. Perhaps my problem is that I have always skipped the "Realistic" Art style. Since I was little I just jumped into the cartoon style. :D I guess that's my new stepping stone. To get better at realism before I try to go any further. (Although I'll still doodle like crazy. x3) Thank you very much! :DD
That's not all. This is is the reason why you don't bring a knife to a gunfight
