Because dachshunds are love <3
When I'm eventually in a position where I'm able to get a dog, I'm gonna get me a little doxie and name it Manchester.
That's how gay I am.

Yeah, dude -- it's about the easiest way to color stuff I've found. Takes a while to get used to, sure, but at least you don't have to break from practicing every 15 minutes to let your paint dry ^_^
And good to hear! I just finished a couple month long project here, so I'm enjoying a bit of time off. Getting out, enjoying the sun some ^_^ It's good times.

Haha, I'm trying to think of a way that background could have been lazier, and I'm drawing a blank here ^_^
But good that you're feeling inspired! It's always fun checking out what folks are doing here -- there's always something going on that'll light a fire under my ass to get practicing <3

Hehe, it's basically my build with the waist shifted down 10 inches ^_^ And I know -- this turned out sooo yellow, right??? Wasn't for most of the painting process... Then it got to a point where there was so much yellow in everything, I couldn't really get rid of it without making the doxie blue >_< Haha, so I just kind of rolled with it.
On this one, I only did the very rough sketch I posted to my scraps folder in Colors, and the rest was all done in Photoshop. That said, you can do A LOT in Colors -- I was just lazy this time.
You should totally check the program out! It's like a streamlined Painter, with a pressure sensitive touchscreen, in a super-portable format. It's really the best tool ever for just taking a meandering walk and running across something you want to sketch or thinking up some random idea and jotting it down on the spot.

I pretty much own those, too <3
I hate how guys' shorts look these days (they're hugely baggy and formless why?), so I've taken to buying women's capris. I'm ridiculously tall, so they end pretty much just below the knee, but they're actually pretty form-fitting and tailored. I dig 'em ^_^

I like baggy pants :>
Most people are afraid to look at guy's butts I guess. I remember one of my photographer roommates was like "hey i need you to look at these photos for me and see which one's are good", and warned me that I would be seeing half-naked photos of guys.
"Uh, ok"

Yeah, it's like we're collectively trying to forget as a culture what guys look like under their shorts. Boxer shorts being another great example... The idea of bums and packages just terrifies us for some reason, apparently.
Also, your photog roommate sounds goofy ^_^

Really??? I dunno, for me they always seemed to bunch and twist weird. I've got a bony ass, so I shift around a lot when I sit -- maybe that's got something to do with it... But yeah, seems like every 10 minutes, boxers'd have my junk in some kinda twisted cotton death-grip and I'd have to adjust.
Plus running in boxers is just...gah. Severe bruising >_<
I'm just a briefs guy, I guess.

It great that people are digging the shoes!
They really aren't that detailed -- there are maybe 6 strokes of accent color on the flat black shape, all of which took about 2 minutes to do. That shows that I put in the right details, which is something I'm really trying to work on. I think if I better learn what details carry across a lot of information versus which ones are just kind of me obsessing over some part of the painting that nobody else notices, I'll be able to work a lot faster.
Thanks for the feedback -- it definitely helps me refine the way I work ^_^
Also awwww, what color is your wiener dog?

That's something i need to work on too. I put too much effort into something no one even notices, and not enough into the areas that truly are a focal point. You do great work and I really admire your skills.
My little weeny is black with long, curly hair on his ears. We named him Ziggy (Marley). You did such a great job making him really look like a dachshund in all aspects. Come to think of it, I don't think I've seen an anthro doxie other than him!

Gunna buck the flow here, because you do know I adore your work and sense of style, but I gotta say there's something about the proportions...or maybe flow of the body that seems a bit off? I guess it could be due to the dog's physique or it could also be that your not looking for critiques whatsoever because the piece is already done ;)
Hehe, anthropomorphizing dachshunds is tricky ^_^ I mean, I could just throw a doxie head on a normal body, but I wanted to see how far I could push the super-long torso thing before it just looked super wrong.
So you're definitely right that the proportions / form of the body are wrong for a human being, but it [i]was[/] intentional. As far as critique goes, I'm always open, so no worries there ^_^

Yah. I see what you're saying about the long torso vs. short legs. That is what's bugging me about it.
Though, it's not so much that I'm not used to seeing a dog's unique form anthropomorphized, rather the shorter legs come across as perspective disorienting. Rather than JUST small, the appear further away when the image is viewed wholistically.
For me, at least ;)

Hmm, yeah, it's a tricky problem ^_^
Our eyes are definitely trained to view proportions (partly because we use relative scale as a depth perception cue), so it's hard to break from normal proportions in a realistic setting without causing a bunch of other weird perceptual issues... If it were in a toony style, it'd be no problem, because broken proportion is pretty much de rigeur in that setting, but I am curious to see how a doxie can be done in a more or less realistic style.

Oh dang, good call on the proportions being more accepted in a toon based drawing - I didn't think about that...
I just assumed this perspective issue was a problem with 2D and it could probably be remedied if you did it in 3D.
Or, as you so illuminated, in a toony style as well ;)
Way to put thought into your work, love ya man!

Hehe, if anything, I sometimes worry that my stuff is too brainy and short on feeling/creativity/ineffable artistic essence. I even have trouble doing stuff in a toony style, just because I have trouble wrapping my head around the exaggerated proportions and straying from the real life model. Where other people make something look stylish, I have trouble making it look intentional ^_^
No! Don't feel bad about that! That's what sets you apart and is especially what I like!
It's so easy to find people doing TOONY anthropomorphized animals, but it's a rare treasure to find artists who can draw them in a mature style. It's THAT dichotomy that I love; seeing traditionally toony/kid's stuff interpreted in an reputable way.
It's a kind of an enchanting corruption of innocence. Or, at least the realization of latent childhood interests being granted adult credibility ;)

Haha, I don't know about "reputable" -- to some extent, furry art is furry art ^_^
But I hear what you're saying. I definitely don't ever want to paint something with the mindset that this is "just" furry art -- regardless of the subject matter, I try to do something interesting with it. I guess to me, the whole anthropomorphized animals thing is less about nostalgia (where I might be more motivated to recreate it more as I saw it in cartoons as a kid) and more about the fabular qualities of animals. Drawing people as people tends to make them very specific in my experience -- a white, 20-something guy isn't just a person, he's white and 20-something, etc.
With animal-people, you can bypass the physical and get to the essential -- rather than race, you get personality. There's a pretty general consensus about what animals equate to what traits (especially within the fandom), and you don't have to worry about the humdrum details of actual human existence. I really like that universality of working with animals.

furry art is furry art until it breaks through. It just needs more people like you and a few others straying from the traditionally expected toony style to doing new, original, challenging, gallery warranting work.
You know, my nostalgia comment wasn't intended to be taken as significantly as you interpreted. I see it as a more subconscious influence than a right out effector. I spelled it out more in my recent comment on your Hobbes pic.
I do totally see what you mean about the advantageous personification furry-izing people results in :) Have you seen any Blacksad?

Brilliant. Apparently FA's linking system doesn't handle URLs with = in them well...

I got mine in French <3
The American paperbacks are so sad compared to the glory of the large-format board books -- I'd rather have to dust off my terrible French and crawl through them in their native format. It's not like I wouldn't want to spend hours and hours poring over the art anyway, so it's no big loss ^_^

Dachshunds are the best dogs ever. They're little dogs with huge personalities.
Mine is a little fatty that loves me to death. x:
But it's an absolute must that you socialize them at a young age. They suffer the Napoleon Complex. D:< Mine likes to charge after big dogs to prove he's just as big and tough.
