Lina Inverse is my all time favourite, No 1 anime girl. And Slayers, for all it's faults, is one of my all time fave anime series, and thank god they're making a fourth series of it.
Several effects I was going for ended up looking rubbish, so about 99% of them were erased. Still not *totally* happy with some parts, but they looked worse otherwise.
I was pleased with the accidental colour drain effect surrounding her. Made her hair look more fiery too.

Hard core Slayers fan here myself, I got the novels, the manga, the movies, first 3 seasons and tons of music. Also got a rare poster of Gourry holding Lina from behind as well as some wall-scroll. Looking forward to the US release of the Slayers short love OAV, and if defiantly true this 4th season of Slayers. I just hope that for both Japanese and English voice casts will be back cause face it its Slayers and Lina and Gourry need to sound like they have been.

Btw BaseHedgehog: The English vocal cast is not bad at all I mean Lisa Ortiz, Eric Stuart, Crispin Freeman, Veronica Taylor and Davis Moo make a great cast. The movies though I wish they used the Tv series cast. then again Naga is perfect with Kelly Manison. I wonder if they will ever officially link Naga with either Amelia or the Saillune family. Oh well got to wait and see

Crispin Freeman is an incredibly overrated voice actor.
I find him quite stunningly mediocre. And yeah, the japanese voice cast returns in full.
The Slayers OAVs were the only episodes that ever had vaguely suitable english voices. But I still much prefer the japanese.

this is what I'm talking about i consider it an OAV more than what they say:
"Meet Again
In the March '07 issue of the Japanese Monthly Dragon Magazine, it states that if customers buy all three Slayers series in Japan, they will receive a new Slayers film with them. It supposedly focuses on the romance between Lina and Gourry. This new film has two parts. First part is 25 minutes of scenes from all three Slayers series. The second part is a two minute feature "Meet Again, sung by Megumi Hayashibara" with Lina and Gourry running on the beach. Zelgadis, Amelia, Xellos are there too."
As far as the English voice cast goes I found them very good, save for a few, I mean Davis Moo as Xellos, Lisa Ortiz as Lina, and Eriv Stuart as Gourry really are a good combo. better than most Multi-season anime. I just wish the movies and OAVs used Lisa Ortiz and the rest... Also wish the Tv based movie was at least 90min and not 30min.

Ummm, Japanese version not the English translation, season one right after she "Spooked" the dragon, where in the English version Gourry Gabriev is saying "It's burning my butt." when he is actually saying "I'll get you for this Lina."

Well remember translation from one language like Japanese to English is not simple. I mean I finally got around to watching Appleseed Ex Machina's Team-up bonus feature of John Woo and Shinji Aramaki. Most of the time you need to add more to the English language or change some lines. Hell I found the Japanese Gourry's Scream at the end of season one not as emotional Eric Stuart's performance.
As for the Giga slave you mean this:
"Darkness beyond blackest pitch, deeper than the deepest night! Lord of Darkness, who shines like gold upon the sea of chaos, I call upon thee! I swear myself to thee! Let the fools who stand before me be destroyed...by the power you and I possess!"
Btw if anyone can name all 5 Dark star weapon without looking it up on any site go ahead lol.

Heh sorry just into Slayers big time, so i have a lot of knowledge about it. its why i am even trying to get some hard to find books.

Well I was debating what the spell would actually be...I kinda came to the assumption it would be Ragnablade. The black with the purple lightning etc.
The colour effect was actually really simple and came by accident. And the placement of the highlight for the hair made a much more stunning result using that effect than I planned.

I bought the 9 disk box set off ebay for about £20-30 a while back.
Next is, IMO, definitely the best series out of the original three, however that doesn't mean The Slayers and Slayers Try are bad.
Next was my first too, and tbh I wish it wasn't. So much more background work is explained in The Slayers. The animation is a little poor when compared to the later series, but the scene in Next where she's given the nightmare vision of what would happen had Giga Slave mis-fired is a reference to one of the most important events in The Slayers series, so it's really worth watching.

Seems so brilliantly animated. As much as I miss the cel shaded look of anime, there are definitely benefits to the wonders of the CG age. Just as long as anime creators don't go as far as Final Fantasy Unlimited did.
