Hope everyone enjoyed their little break from FA, maybe went outside, actually got some sun? I didn't do much arting over the break, so I figured I'd whip something quick up to celebrate the re-up ^_^
Anyhoo, welcome back, all.

They really only work on tall skinny guys. And it's not like tall skinny guys can wear the hugely baggy bro shorts they sell these days anyway -- it makes your legs look like these tiny little sticks coming out of huge pools of material...
Not that I'm bitter or anything ^_^

It feels to me that AD's found his voice, you know? Consistency of style is actually a really highly regarded trait among illustrators (and something I could TOTALLY stand to improve), and at this point, his art is his product, you know? I can see not wanting to take huge departures when you've got to turn around and market that as erotic material to an established consumer base. Plus, honestly, that works in reverse, too, I've been really impressed with the degree to which he's gone out of his way to work in bizarre perspective and complex scene-setting, when so long as he draws beefy guys with big dongs, he's probably set for the month. I dunno, I got no problems with dude's style ^_^ That said, would I be interested to see something bizarre and experimental from him (or anyone else)? Of course ^_^
Aaanyway, glad you liked this guy. It's fun doing something quick with chunky lines and flat tones from time to time, and it's looking to be a busy couple of weeks here, so I may do more like this for convenience's sake if nothing else.

Huuuh. You're totally right. Consistent style IS a marked achievement, but I don't think it's out of order to expect new and fresh things from artists.
I absolutely will let AD off the hook due to the merchandising tact he's pulling offl...which then can be argued is that selling out? blah blah blah, no. I don't rag on artists for selling out (unless the corporate machine starts affecting their work) Which would never happen in this case.
So yeah...I guess I can't blame AD for the route he's taking. Reached a stable style, developed a product, and I'm sure he pours tons of effort and work into maintaining and updating it. Which is commendable, good for him. I just personally would have liked to see him experiment with new stuff (remember his tattoo and 70s influenced patterns?)

Yeah, I think we're getting to be on the same page here. His tattoo work is totally rad, but I can see how it's obviously hell of work intensive, too. And I'm so much more a commercial artist than I am a fine artist by nature that the idea of an artist "selling out" is a complete non-issue for me. As a professional illustrator, he's figured out his clientele, he makes art that is both generally beautiful and pleasing to them, and they pay him for it in return. That's the natural order of it. The idea of painting from the soul or having some lofty artistic vision that I want to stay true to is kind of foreign to me. I have a strong sense of what I think looks pretty, but the subject matter is pretty secondary.
eek! thankyou so much!
Though I totally don't find your stuff to be uptight! It's clean, but the lines have a great energy which I think is way harder to accomplish in a polished drawing. "Finishing" a piece and maintaining the liveliness of the line is something I tend to have trouble with.

holy shit awesome. seriously the patterns and the face are so legittt!
and the capri's are kind of starting to catch on over here, but theyre not really capri's (at least no guy will call them that..). it's basically just people cutting the bottoms off of like kind of tight jeans yeah.
ill stick with my rad new american apparelsss

Yeah, the 3/4-length skinny jeans look is really popular up here with cyclist-types. You see folks zipping along in those and tight tanks or sleeveless tees a lot.
Although I'll second the need for a less gay name for 3/4-length pants. Honestly, I think if they weren't called "capris," more guys would feel comfortable wearing them.

I think being such a bright flat against all the darker colors and the super-bombastic paisley pattern, your eye really gets pulled to the pants. And then I guess as the part of the pants with the most detail, your eyes get pulled to his junk 9_9. Haha, I need to pay more attention to stuff like that when I'm drawing...
i would love to own a pair of capris like those, i totally feel that capris on men have such a bad stigma on them, they aren't THAT gay are they?.. and yea.. coming from a few airplane trips myself over the summer, i think my next luggage bag will be non-black and probably print.
