I always liked that wing/hand combo design. I even use it in my work: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/10518134/
Aaah, lovely!! It really is wonderful, because as a bat, you still want to use your hands D: I mean, it's difficult to do stuff without fingers! But it was way too un-realistic to just have hands with wings attached. I don't really like that style...Therefore, this! ;D
That is a wonderful animation, btw!

Thanks! : D There's a lot more with that character. He's one of the two main characters in my novel/comic series: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6018370/
The illustrators keep having to use yoga and ballet poses for him, since he shoots guns with his feet. (I tried firing his gun with just three fingers—it didn't go well!)

im making a bat suit and i have been trying to figure out what i can use for the arm extension part of the wing (that comes out from the wrist) i have been trying to find a material that i can use for it that is strong but light at the same time. i have wooden dowels with foam on them but i dont like that they have no curve to them. i was wondering what you used for the wings?
I wouldn't do what I did, it's extremely fragile (as a matter of fact, he has about 3 splints in each wing at this point) and very uncomfortable. I used a hollow metal bar for Guapo. It's attached to my lower two fingers via a little pocket.
If you have a heat gun or a large oven, I suggest a long piece of PVC pipe, which is what I'm using when I re-make Guapo (he needs a lot of new fur anyway, he's getting quite used looking). You can use the heat gun at a high temperature on super thin PVC (use gloves!) to curve it so it's not completely straight. Don't worry, I hate that look too, the straight wings...it's so awkward looking. The oven is just the same idea, but you'll need to reach in and use gloves to bend it.
There are many, many tutorials on how to work with PVC pipe, if you get stuck, Google away!
However, even using this method, it's going to be quite uncomfortable on your last two fingers, unless you make the hands differently, or have smaller wings. His wings are two layers of fleece sewn together, and their massive size makes it very, very heavy, and bends my fingers down like crazy. I try to only fully extend the wings for pictures, to save my fingers some uncomfort/pain (I wouldn't fully consider it pain until I wear him for more than a bunch of hours in a day). I did what I did because I wanted to be able to fold his wings using my fingers, instead of them being attached to my hand and not being able to control them.
Hope that helps!
