I drew this for some contest on a forum somewhere, and won. The theme was warm colors, although I joined the contest primarily to see what kind of picture I could make if I restricted my color palette.

When I've heard people say 'warm colors' or been shown examples of 'warm colors,' they generally give the feeling that whatever the person in question is going to draw/paint, is going to be something good/nice/peaceful, but you've done something serious and violent, which I like a lot.
Why are they called warm colors anyways? I mean, is there anything more to it, aside from association with things like fire and light which would be, obviously, warm?

I wish I knew also, but I think it really just has to do with the implication of heat. When you see colors like red and orange, they look to me like heat from fire or the sun. I don't know if the association of those colors with heat have any sort of scientific basis, but that's what "warm" colors imply to mean. Fiery stuff.
