Alfie is from Liverpool, England, and there is actually a large following for English football in the states now with teams like LA Galaxy. It all fits. Having an Englishman get thrust into a basketball career actually made little sense given basketball is close to zero here.

So, instead of basketball, it'll be soccer? Makes sense culturally, and Alfie gets to hurt people more easily than by playing hoops. Still, this changes the entire tone of the story, doesn't it? No more journey to get into the FBA draft, no Muri as a counterpoint to his attitude? It was a lot of fun watching him attempt to fit into an already existing setting. Well, I'll be looking forward to seeing what Alfie 2.0 is like!
