Ancient Depiction of Anubis
I took this at the museum as well, this is what the inside wall of a mummy's sarcophagus looks like. It's covered with hieroglyphics and images that depict what the soul is going to go through. This is the best picture I was able to get, but it shows two images of Anubis that I thought looked really neat. ^_^

Well, if by "normally" you mean having studied them once and being able to make heads or tails without a dictionary, then yes :)
I totally don't get their math, though. It's more complex than half the stuff you study when you are math major...
And yeah, they are really pretty. I'd love to see you try drawing something in their general style (I don't know if that's your cup of tea, though, as you shade your images beautifully, and they did mostly "flat" colors).

I absolutely adore Egyptology! I was sending my mom's notes using the hieroglyphic alphabet when I was like 6! XD But she had like the 'Book of the Dead' (not the real one obviously) and books about Egyptian Magick and there were always big colorful pictures of the gods and goddesses in there and I always drew them. I should start drawing some Egyptian things again ^^ thankee for photos of inspiration! <3
well egyptology is just the study of egypt and it's mythology, the royal lineage and whatnot - the real rosetta stone is how archeologists deciphered what the hieroglyphics mean - and chances are if that rosetta stone program for computers has a hieroglyphic one, i'm pretty sure that would be of use! :D for everything else - books and teh internetz X3
