Mammals have a way of settling down to bed by performing tasks which ready them for sleep and the morning after; some will prepare their lunches in little plastic boxes before collapsing straight onto the mattress and no one hears a peep from them until just before the sunrise. Others have a shower, brush and floss their teeth and weigh themselves in addition to that. Rarely will a mammal will start by laying back on their bed and watching as through doors and windows pours the vines of an invasive, hungry, type of plant. Of these, most will try to escape or call for help. It is only natural to resist once the swathes of chlorophyll-infused body begin to occupy more space than air and then reach for the loudest shape.
It only took a few seconds to transform the frantic, panicking mammal into a docile, accepting meal. The coils of stunningly heavy vegetation encircled the only place that was believed to be safe; its bed, where they would escape to when the world became hostile. At the end of each vine was a yellow bulb with fierce dots of ruby as a pattern, and around that was a mane of thick leaves which appeared to be able to move independently. Each one had an opening in the centre that spanned from one side to the other and was marked by a border of pale rubbery flesh which, for all intents and purposes, appeared as lips protecting the mouth.
This mammal was afraid of mouths. On humans they were prone to vile and insulting spews which carried the severe weight of pain but, after a head-sized bulb swayed forward and caught the mammal’s features behind those warm seals, the difference between them was clear. Smoke in a violet hue poured from the bulb and without any other source of air the human had no choice but to inhale. The nectar was as sweet as honey and dripped down their throat. On mere contact with the flesh it created the feeling of warmth, and their fear began to trickle away. They swallowed more and pushed back against the bulb. It retreated back a few feet with its prey ensuring the contact between never disappeared and the human was obediant.
They were then pushed back by it, and a vine behind the ankles tripped them to force the mammal onto its back. Any instinct to resist was muted by the influence of the pleasant fumes. The vine billowed them into its prey and softened their mind while its body continued to slither into the room and onto the bed as well. The human began to vanish beneath stretches of emerald lengths while the mattress creaked from the weight. VInes intertwined the human’s limbs and in next to no time they looked similar to an enveloped tree. Once restrained physically, the bulb retreated from its prey and left them with a ruby-tinged face and beads of purple sweat on their skin and tongue. Far from fear, the human reached up with entangled arms and slid them between the thick leaves and the plump, circular bulb.
She did not fear that mouth.
