- You sure it's here?
- Yes, I'm sure!
- But it's a cave…
- Of course it's a cave! What else can it be?
Two were sitting behind the bushes in the middle of ancient and endless forests of Falkreath in the far and cold land of Skyrim. They were right in front of big cave entrance, arguing. Aaron, blue-furred fox in sturdy leather armor and a pair of daggers in hands was saying that this was the right place. Alice, hyena in heavy steel armor and with massive two-handed sword in hands was saying that this was the wrong place. And they were arguing for already thirty minutes.
- I don't know. – Alice said – It just doesn't look like a place where a sacred treasure is hidden.
- And you have seen how much of such places, hmmm? – Aaron replied.
- Fine! Let's go in your cave. If some bandit-archer will hit the target on your left knee – I'm not responsible.
- Stop making jokes about my birthmarks.
- Never. – she said, smiling.
They left the bushes and went towards the cave. Just like any other cave this one was dark, dump, scary, and, most probably, inhabited by some wild life. So this was not surprise at all when a few pairs of hungry predatory eyes appeared in the dark. In response to this, Alice has hit the rock with flat surface of two-handed sword, making it ring like a church bell, and screamed: "GET OUT OF THERE YOU FREAKING DIRTY FURRY BASTARDS!"
A pack of wolves ran out of the cave, whining, with their tails tucked. Alice once again became proud of her work, until Aaron spoke:
- And then we wonder why we have so few friends. – he said and rocks flew into him.
After a few minutes of hit & run they finally entered the cave. And just like Aaron was expecting – at the far end of the cave was standing one very suspicious stone. He hit it a few times, then slapped it, then pushed some of its parts, then rubbed left side of it, then tried to turn the top of it. Alice watched at him from the distance.
- I'm sure it's a hidden door… - said Aaron – But I just don't understand how its mechanism works…
- Well, in my opinion – every mechanism works the same way as its creator. – replied Alice.
- And what this supposed to mean?
- Just help me to push it aside.
Aaron didn't understand what she's meant. Not at all. Everything became clear only after they both tried to push the stone aside and it has simply rolled away, revealing a path behind it. What Aaron thought was a tricky Nordic device – in reality was a simple rolling stone. Rough, primitive – but working solution. They went into the opened narrow path, guided by the light of the torch. Here, the air was dry and dusty – Aaron even sneezed a few times. For a few more minutes they were walking through the secret path, in the end of which they have met another big stone. They've rolled it aside as well and entered the Nordic dungeon, ancient crypt. The long time dead Nords lied around, rotten, dried – empty shells with no soul inside. Mostly. A tall figure, covered in rusty metal armor, moved at the far side of the chamber. Draugr stepped from its place, stood in full length, took a heavy sword with its bony fingers. Alice grabbed her sword, planning to knock out the corpse before it will be ready to fight, but Aaron grabbed her at the arm and stopped:
- Wait! Wait… - he said smiling.
- What? Ar, he is going to attack us!
- I know, I know. Just wait for it…
Old corpse made a step, then another one. His empty glowing eyes were looking at them. His was disturbed, his rest was broken. He made a few more steps and started to run. Alice made a step, ready to start a fight with the dead, but Aaron stopped her again:
- Wait for it!
- He is running to attack us.
- I know. Trust me. – he said with smile.
Draugr was shorting the distance quickly. Alice held her sword ready, worried. Aaron was smiling mischievously. Draugr was in only three meters before them, when a stone plate under his leg has pushed down. The next second a huge spiky metal grid swung from the corner and hit the walking dead so hard, that it has fallen apart while still flying, smashing in the opposite wall as a dozen separate parts.
- BOOM! – exclaimed Aaron – I knew you could do something better than rolling stones!
- Glad for you, Ar. Do you have any idea where we should go?
- Well, to be honest – we have cut quite a lot using this way.
- And how much is this "quite a lot"?
Aaron didn't answer. He has just pointed on huge round stone door and took dragon claw from his pouch. They moved closer to the door (evading deadly trap and its trigger plate, of course) and tried to open it. It took some time, but after a few minutes massive door slid down, screeching. A wave of air, that could be only described as dead (so dry and lifeless it was), rushed over them. A huge hall appeared before them, with faint light from below the sealing; engraved walls, which told many incredible and ancient stories; floor, covered with dozens of huge white bones. At the end of the hall – remains of pedestal lied, and among them – beautiful crown, made of gold, engraved with diamonds and jade. Yet, neither Aaron, nor Alice rushed toward it.
- You think something is wrong here too, right?
- Absolutely… Do you have any idea what?
- Nope. Slowly moving forward?
- Right behind you.
Step by step they moved through the hall, ready to face anything and nothing at the same time. Silhouettes were lurking in the shadows between huge bones, and they both were thinking – what creature could have such skeleton? An obvious answer – "Dragon" – couldn't resist a simple fact – dragons did not exist. But did they? Because looking at those bones – you start to think differently. Meanwhile, Aaron and Alice have finally reached the crown, which was lying right next to a huge "dragon" skull. They hesitated. Something was wrong, very wrong. Treasures like this simply don't lie in unprotected halls. And yet – it was here, right before them.
- Now or never. – they said and pick up the crown.
First second nothing has happened. But the very next moment dust started to circle around the hall. Air, hot as flame, started to fill everything, and an awful screeching-crashing sound broke the howling of the wind – the bones were putting back together. "RUN!" – they screamed to each other at the same time and ran. A bright light started to illuminate the hall, as growing cloud of fire started to grow under forming dragon's spine, caged by the bars of ribs. The two ran as fast as never before, crossing the hall in only a minute – but this minute was barely enough. They have only ran out of the hall and made a step aside, when a wall of flame crushed out of the door with a furious dragon roar. Dead dragon was spitting flames again and again, trying to incinerate the "thieves", screaming and roaring because of anger. But Aaron and Alice moved carefully, waiting for every dragon's pause – and then, finally, managed to get to the path they used to come here. A few minutes after they were back in the forest of Folkrit. There they fell on the grass.
- Holy crap…
- Aha…
- You have the crown?
- Yep. – Aaron lift the crown – Let's go and sell it?
- Lead the way, parthner.
