Stheno normally needs to draw a kind of summoning circle with the glowing “paint” with his tail to access subspace/dimensional rifts, but if he's strong enough at a particular moment he can rip holes in space time with just a thought. Given his slight size increase and that he's started to give off a constant glow, malficious is actually kind of accurate here though they might not have even consciously known it.
There is another comic that has gone unposted where he also does this after a substantial power boost, though his tail is slightly less effective for that sort of thing after anyways
