Yeah, I can't get it to work all the time >_O Usually I'll have a bunch of references saved of examples (usually seems to happen around the ears where fur changes directions lots :b) but I find you have to do lots of little "dots" to represent the little tufts sticking out - I usually do this by sorta scribbling with a dark colour, and then highlighting the bits in middle as "tufts" with a light colour, combined with some fur brushes and some teeny tiny messy hairs squiggling all around.
Uhh, does that make sense XD Like, if you were using graphite, you'd make a nice grey smudgey area, and lift away light tufts with a kneadable eraser and then sharpen/define around them with pencil.
Using words to describe art/art processes can be so inadequate XD

No no I get what you mean! That makes sense to me. With graphite I'd cry lol Uff no wonder it's hard to convey in art xD it's mostly shading and highlighting for effect, working from the bottom up. I actually tend to prefer to do that in art so it'll be mostly practice for me. Oof *w*;; Thank you for taking the time to explain it!
