In Vita, cybernetics are more commonplace than you'd think. Thanks to Kori Industries, robotics technology was advanced by several years. Among many of these developments were ways to link devices directly to one's nervous system, and by extension, controlling said devices purely by thought. Not long afterwards and modern cybernetics were developed, using a processor dedicated to interpreting input from the nerves that originally went into the original limb and extremities. Further developments made these cybernetic replacements easier to make, and therefore cheaper. These developments were also given to public domain, allowing other companies to pick up the plans and make their own improvements.
This hand in particular was customized for William Bolton, who lost his right hand in a motorcycle accident that severed it from below the wrist. With the help of funding from his mother, he was able to afford a citizen-grade replacement. This cybernetic hand and wrist has the same range of motion that his original had and even allows for a basic sense of touch. The panel on the butt of the palm disconnects to reveal ports for charging the hand as well as lights to indicate remaining battery life.
