Great episode once again! :)
Regarding lyrics, I will always gravitate towards darker lyrics. I'm not too fond of heartbreaky / emo vibes so much but I like tragic or cynical subjects. Jonas Renkse from Katatonia is a good example of what I'd lean towards - lots of metaphor and not transparent in meaning from the first listen. Stefan Ackermann of Das Ich also writes some excellent and really thought provoking lyrics. I'm not fully opposed to happy tunes, but I do find mainstream pop or really sugar-sweet lyrics hard to engage with a lot of the time.

Thanks very much for the feature!
For lyrics I guess I really enjoy a narrative, I think music as a storytelling medium is underappreciated and there are some popular bands that do a good job of it, my favorite in particular is Highly Suspect, though they can be quite harsh with their language (as most hard rock bands tend to be). Their track little one is particularly good for telling a cohesive self contained story. Another one I really have been liking is the band Emery's album Eve. there's some not so subtle religious undertones but it's a good album nonetheless.

I prefer lyrics that have themes of rebellion or heartbreak in them as they have a sort of catharsis factor when dealing with shit from others. There's the traditional "We're Not Gonna Take It" by Twisted Sister and "Leave Me Alone" from Michael Jackson, and I sometimes listen to those when I am tired of politics or people always bugging me with trivial matter. That's not to say all rebellious songs are angst ridden, as some pop songs like "Believe" take the more "independent man/woman" route than raging against the oppressor.
Bottom line, if you are over it with others' crap, let it out in song is what I'd say.

Weeeeeee! Thanks for the spotlight, and congrats to everyone else on here! Great work!
Lyrics for me just need to be, well, good. Either well written, or well sung, or great melody, etc. I always have a hard time thinking about having a favorite anything. If it’s honest, creative, and thoughtful, then I’ll probably dig it.

Good selection of songs, can't wait to get back into doing spotlights myself :)
When it comes to lyrics, I like the ones that aren't just the general break up/love/sex song. My favorite kinds of lyrics involve depression, loss, and other negative thoughts. It's like they have a bigger impact to me as I can relate to a lot of them. When I've worked on lyrics forever ago, I excelled better at those kinds of subjects to write about
