For a cell tower technician, the only thing more annoying than squirrels nesting on a tower is anthro squirrels nesting on a tower. Especially anthro squirrels with a law degree. After the groundbreaking court case Bannertail v. American Tower Corporation, companies were ordered to reinforce branching supports of all camouflaged cell towers to ensure the safety of anthro squirrels. See, unlike their feral cousins they are instinctively drawn to perch on the tallest trees, and tree-shaped cell towers are usually much taller than the real trees surrounding them...
To be honest I hadn't initially thought of camouflaged cell towers, she was supposed to be perching on a power transmission tower. Then while looking for references the cell towers showed up and they felt much more fitting for the scene. This happens quite often to me: I start with a typical fantasy trope or with a simplistic idea, I keep it around for a while, and then a more intresting take on the same idea comes to mind. It's one of the reasons I work at a relatively slow pace.
EDIT: This seems to be the tower whose photos I used as a reference, or at the very least it's the same exact model (except my version has the extra suspender cables): https://www.waymarking.com/waymarks.....ter_Ccounty_NY

Ah, the analogy of molding clay.~ An idea comes to mind, you start shaping closest to your intended target, then better ideas come about to influence the final creation.
This came out beautiful!! Such a casual, care-free scene. And the foreground/background pieces look like each one was done with lots of thought and consideration, though I could argue that with a lot of your submissions. ^-^

Thank you! That's a very good analogy to explain my creative process. (Probably unrelated: I've been suggested several times to try molding, I haven't found the time nor the right ideas yet, but it's something I'll definitely try at some point.) Integrating well the foreground and background parts of pictures is indeed one of my main focuses at the moment.
As long as they're not stashing their nuts in the microwave relay dishes... I mean, have you SEEN what happens when a squirrel uses one for a repository?

I mean, that's INSANE.

I just have this silly mental image of said anthro squirrel using that same microwave antenna in a similar manner, or worse, the entire mast's array. It'd make for some VERY odd and interesting interactions in a courtroom. Or heck, even some interesting interactions by maintenance personnel and said squirrel.
I won't lie, though - totally adorably, I want to snuggle that giant fluffy tail, because big fluffy tails are <3

Not bad, very simple and funny. Yeah, the whole genocidal hunting rampage in books like Lobo are quite hard on our actual more ecological feelings. It's something to look at minding the times in which they were written, though. Seton was deeply in love with nature in his way. He also drew some incredibly cute furry caricatures!
I had to "Instant fave" this image purely for the juxtaposition of the "Modern" elements of reality against the "Fantasy" aspects of the character. When I lived in Upland there was one of those Cell Towers disguised as a pine tree, which to me was even uglier than the bare, naked tower would have been. So I was reminded of that fake tree, plus I often fantasized about what animals trying to climb and nest in said "Tree" might react to those plastic pine needles.
Thank you! Lately I'm thinking a lot about the interactions between animals and man-made things which have become elements of the landscape, that's what I created the "Ecosymbolism" tag for. It probably stems from my interest for science fiction mixed with interest for current environmental issues and I'm sure we're not alone fantasizing about similar situations.
Yes, although if it's real animals I'd rather call that a naturalistic picture - I've actually found a dormouse nesting into a decommissioned electrical box years ago. Myself I'll use the tag only if anthros are involved, because anthros can be read as either persons in a SF/F setting or as stand-ins for the real animal (hence the "symbolism" part).
Thank you! It must be assumed that anthro squirrels have an uncanny sense of balance and very nimble feet. X-D But compared to real towers this one has the two suspension cables making it less likely to break under her weight (cables added as result of the aforementioned court case of course).
Despite claims that that cell phones and cell towers create no harmful transmissions, I feel that the appearance of anthro squirrels can be attributed to generations of common squirrels being born and raised, and then themselves also taking up permanent residence upon these towers. The extremely close proximity to these powerful transmission sources must surely have caused the genetic mutations needed to create these so-called "anthros" in the short span of time the towers have been around. Something needs tone done! Think about it, if they have evolved to their present state within only the last two or three decades, how advanced will they be in another twenty years? The thought of it is downright mind boggling and scary! *panic attack sets in*
By the way, was this piece a commission and if not, does it happen to be available? If available note me with what you need to get for her.

I haven't investigated on the details of how the anthro squirrel population got in the area in the first place but this sounds like a scarily believable theory that would also explain why they are so mischievous. But I am somewhat stifled in my intention to do something about it by the though that cyber-squirrel overlords couldn't possibly be worse than human politicians.

She got a cell phone, eh? That's good. Now she can call me first when she wants some nuts instead of just climbing in my window. http://www.furaffinity.net/view/25132344/
