I refurbished a fursuit recently! Well actually....awhile ago xD PLEASE NOTE: This suit is not for sale and is home where he belongs <3 ALSO, if you know who the maker of this suit don't talk about them with me please - I don't want to be involved with their drama and solely refurbished this so the owner could enjoy their fursuit again and for a fun project.
A friend of mine mentioned their Fursuit needed several repairs and I offered to help work on it since I've owned, worked on, or built fursuits casually in the past and wanted to get back into the hobby and make things with my hands again!
List of work/ repairs done:
- Completely remade the cowl and neck pieces and lined them with Avengers printed Lycra and added heavy duty snap closures and a pocket for the LED battery pack- The original cowl was pieced together from several pieces of fur that where cut improperly, misaligned and held together exclusively with glue. The cowl didn't fit them so they always wore a collar to hide the fact it looked wonky all the time.
-Remade the eyes and added eyelids for cute toony effect, recycling the original eye fabric (which was printed/ outsourced by the original maker I'm not sure who prints the fabric actually)[i]
-reinforced a number of seams around the head, ears and various other places throughout the head. ([i] Pretty much every seam on this guy was glue, so it took pliers and several apolstry needles.)
-Repaired the mouth as the teeth where damaged/ made two different minky tongues attachable via velcro
-Replaced original silicone nose with a plush minky one!
I used this pattern here: https://www.etsy.com/listing/844600.....ttern-tutorial
*highly recommend!
-Gave him a shave as the original shave job was pretty uneven in some places around the head and ears

-There are several places I could not repair, as I did not have access to white fur and this refurbish project was done on "a budget" with mostly materials they already had lying around (thankfully they do a lot of sewing projects and had most of what we needed on hand)
Very nice job. The end product is a definite improvement.
Finding crafters with the time and experience to refurbish a fursuit head is difficult, and I'm sure that it's an untapped market.
I have a couple suits that are 10+ years old with heads that could use a bit of sprucing up. PM me if you're interested in discussing it further.
Condolences at the loss of your grandfather. *hugs*
