Watched the anime movie 'Redline' recently and got a bit of the vibe stuck in my head. For someone who likes the Initial D - Eurobeat music as much as I do, it's amazing how few cars I actually draw. Regardless, wanted that bold, dark line aesthetic + car so went for this image in turn. Granted, it's still a pin-up, because I have the originality of a rock. Even less so than usual, because this also gets the unoriginal bonus as a self-portrait, so double the unoriginal.
The car is a 2020 Ford Mustang, girl is again moi in a (denim) catsuit (yes this is a real thing, I got it from Guess, and it's not as uncomfortable as it looks). Bridge of choice is our beloved car film star, Cambie Street Bridge (it features in a lot of car commercials). It's a posing image, there isn't much of a story here. I'm slightly more attracted to the Mustang than some other cars, for some weird reason like its beefy muscle look... and at the same time I fawn obsessively over the old school VW Beetles. But... I'm weird.
Art approach was sketch it out, and then manually draw in the the very many lines straight on Photoshop. Which is how I managed to get the detail. Took a while but was faster than usual and less tedious than usual since I was really into doing the American comic book style for once. Very taxing, but frankly with a car it is very sleek and works great. I quite love the outcome. The colors, not as much. I'm not a fan of severely saturated colors, but again, going with a theme and a look, and this that is what the style demands. So here ya go. I think I'm getting better at it, but feel free to comment if you think otherwise.
