This is another wonderful piece of art I got from Kory Bing, creator of the webcomic Skin Deep.

This is once again the family unit made up of Karl Richter (draugr), Elise Foucharde (bugbear), and little Louis (also bugbear). Elise became pregnant with Louis after a one night stand in the Liverpool Avalon on VE Day, 1945. Karl and Elise left for America shortly after, not wanting her child to grow up in war torn Europe. They moved to New York City, using the considerable wealth that Karl's noble German family managed to leave to him. They arrived in New York City in August of 1945. In late February of 1946, little Louis was born in the underground New York Avalon.
Under normal situations, bugbear parents do not stay together. Male children tend to go with the father, while girls go with the mother. This wasn't possible with Louis, as Elise didn't even get the name of the bugbear she spent the night with. That meant that she stayed with the boy, doing what she could to help raise him. That also meant that Karl became the boy's official dad. With Karl unable to leave their 5th Avenue apartment without considerable disguises, and Louis unable to utilize his own medallion to look human (an heirloom of the Foucharde family) much of the boy's early life was spent in the care of his undead father figure. Karl absolutely adored the boy, and dedicated his unending existence to caring for little Louis. This was a good thing, as Karl had been dead since 1915, and the mental and spiritual strain of being undead was getting to him. Without a war to keep his mind occupied, Karl found himself drifting in and out of existential depression. Being a father to a baby bugbear pulled him back from the brink. As Karl told Elise in 1951..."If it wasn't for you and Louis, I would have gone mad years ago."
This pic is of the first day little Louis came home after he was born. Even then, Louis loved being in Karl's company. Elise can't help but smile as she sees how strongly her son has bonded with her undead best friend.
