Growing up with a lot of 2D platformer games, I always loved the creativity and atmosphere that went into really memorable level design. And nothing helps me remember a level better than the music. Listening to this track puts me in mind of the sort of stage I'd love to design in a video game if I were theming a level around Canthus. A chain of islands at sunset with the sun halfway gone and the moon just beginning to rise. A location frozen in time at a point of convergence between day and night. As the player advanced further, they'd begin to navigate through sunken ruins... with clues scattered like breadcrumbs suggesting a secret waiting for them deeper at the heart of the submerged temple.
Sabinmoon surprised me with the announcement that they'd won a raffle for a music slot from
StarmanBlue! They then proceeded to make me do my best impression of a fainting goat when they announced their intention to turn it into a gift for me. o_O
So, um. THANK YOU SABIN!!! The utterly bewildered reaction I get any time I'm given a gift aside, I think this piece came out absolutely beautifully! It's a really chill melody that hits me right in the nostalgia, so I decided to name it after the imagery it brought to mind. I especially love it when music is able to capture the feeling of water like this one is.
