Ashley flew back into the forest that night, starting at the parking lot and walking along the edge. For a while, there was just nothing, and it continued like that for an hour. The most she had seen while looking around was animal tracks. She eventually stepped toward the forest and started to look around. The first thing she came across were rustling bushes and went after them. There was nothing on the other side of the bushes, but it was hard to tell if that was a good thing or a bad thing. Ashley sighed over the nothing in the bushes, and continued looking through the forest.
"It's out here, it has to be." Ashley told herself and kept walking.
She made her way toward the river while searching, the same river where something was taking Claire before. Getting closer, she looked on the ground for tracks, and then something flashed in her eyes. Instinctively, she covered them, then looked here it came from once the light was off her. A bright light was passing by, behind all the trees, and it was in the direction of the lake. Ashley took off her sweater and spread her wings, then she flew above the trees and soared for the river. When she landed, there seemed to be no sign of what caused it, no tire tracks along the trails, and the only sound she could hear was the rushing river.
"What the heck is going on out here?" Ashely asked herself
She walked along the river a bit longer, until she heard a crunching sound. It wasn't that far from her, maybe just around the next tree. It sounded like a a wolf or dog was gnawing on bones, but in a way it sounded bigger. Ashley sneaked her way closer, but she clearly didn't get there in time. She found a dead, but the remains weren't like anything she had seen before. It was almost sadistic, body had the blood and life sucked out of it, and then the creature that did this then was ripping apart the dry husk.
Ashley looked around, for signs of the beast, thinking it may be still near by. What she found was... another odd thing. stretchy, white, sticky strands of something was put between some trees and the ground. Ashley was about to grab it for a better feel, but stopped herself. Instead, she grabbed a stick and tried to pull some of the stuff down. Not only did this not work, but the stick was stuck to the strands now.
"It's like a spider's web." Ashley whispered, and then she pulled out her phone and started taking photos. "The girls sure are gonna be shocked when I tell them in the morning."
She spread her wings, about to leave, but then stopped, looking back to the webs. The photos she had were good, but actually bringing it with her could prove more useful. It would give Torrent something to use her powers on and track. She beat it with rocks and sticks to knock some loose, but it all ended up sticking to the webs instead. Her last attempt to take some was to cover a part of the web in some dirt, so she wouldn't stick to it. She tried to pull it away, still the stuff was stuck in place,
"Well... I think it will be secure here." Ashley said to herself, then looked around, "Maybe..." She walked to the river and looked at the land scape, "Okay... these webs were not far from here... I just gotta bring them here, and we can all see these webs, I don't think anything will move that stuff." Then she spread her wings and flew back to the forest.
To their shock, the webs were all gone when they had returned.
"I swear, there were giant spider webs when I found this," Ashley said to Analie and Copleand, "They were big, and the wouldn't move no matter what I did."
The two didn't look at Ashley impressed, Analie still looked around, then stopped and knelt over the carcass from that night.
"That was from last night too." Ashley said, "That's proof, It's got the blood drained and it was chewed on!"
"Confirmed," Analie's phone chimed, "injuries are similar to the victims around town. Possible relations."
"So it killed the beast, then... Got rid of the webs later one?" Ashley asked, still looking for the webs.
"Webs are biodegradable." Copleand said, looking toward the ground, "If they really were spider webs, then they probably disolved hours ago. So this monster is a giant spider?"
"Potentially." Analie's phone chimed again, "Spiders only suck blood, I'm finding strange teeth marks on this thing too."
"Okay, bit spider, lots of teeth... Scary stuff." Ashley said, "Are we gonna... Pair up to find this thing then?"
"Of Course." Copleand said, "We'll take turns searching the city at night. the other group should keep watch around here."
"Here? Why?"
"You said, there was a light along here, and a really bright one." Copleand said, "I may not have seen it, but that's a sign someone was here, and if there was no tracks then they had to have been using the river. I'm guessing it was smugglers."
"What if that's how this monster got here?" Ashley said,
"I hate to say it, but that's more than possible, Ash."
